Wikipedia - Imagine a World Without Free Knowledge: Make Your Voice Heard

    Why is Wikipedia blacked-out?

Wikipedia is protesting against SOPA and PIPA by blacking out the English Wikipedia for 24 hours, beginning at midnight January 18, Eastern Time. Readers who come to English Wikipedia during the blackout will not be able to read the encyclopedia. Instead, you will see messages intended to raise awareness about SOPA and PIPA, encouraging you to share your views with your representatives, and with each other on social media.

    What are SOPA and PIPA?

SOPA and PIPA represent two bills in the United States House of Representatives and the United States Senate respectively. SOPA is short for the “Stop Online Piracy Act,” and PIPA is an acronym for the “Protect IP Act.” (“IP” stands for “intellectual property.”) In short, these bills are efforts to stop copyright infringement committed by foreign web sites, but, in our opinion, they do so in a way that actually infringes free expression while harming the Internet. Detailed information about these bills can be found in the Stop Online Piracy Act and PROTECT IP Act articles on Wikipedia, which are available during the blackout. GovTrack lets you follow both bills through the legislative process: SOPA on this page, and PIPA on this one. The Electronic Frontier Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to advocating for the public interest in the digital realm, has summarized why these bills are simply unacceptable in a world that values an open, secure, and free Internet.

    Why is the blackout happening?

Wikipedians have chosen to black out the English Wikipedia for the first time ever, because we are concerned that SOPA and PIPA will severely inhibit people’s access to online information. This is not a problem that will solely affect people in the United States: it will affect everyone around the world.
Why? SOPA and PIPA are badly drafted legislation that won’t be effective at their stated goal (to stop copyright infringement), and will cause serious damage to the free and open Internet. They put the burden on website owners to police user-contributed material and call for the unnecessary blocking of entire sites. Small sites won’t have sufficient resources to defend themselves. Big media companies may seek to cut off funding sources for their foreign competitors, even if copyright isn’t being infringed. Foreign sites will be blacklisted, which means they won’t show up in major search engines. And, SOPA and PIPA build a framework for future restrictions and suppression.

Does this mean that Wikipedia itself is violating copyright laws, or hosting pirated content?

No, not at all. Some supporters of SOPA and PIPA characterize everyone who opposes them as cavalier about copyright, but that is not accurate. Wikipedians are knowledgeable about copyright and vigilant in protecting against violations: Wikipedians spend thousands of hours every week reviewing and removing infringing content. We are careful about it because our mission is to share knowledge freely. To that end, all Wikipedians release their contributions under a free license, and all the material we offer is freely licensed. Free licenses are incompatible with copyright infringement, and so infringement is not tolerated.

Health: Relationship Between Arthritis & the African Mango

    1

research about the Relationship Between Arthritis and the African Mango

The flesh and seeds of African mango trees are the chief ingredients that people eat. Gastrointestinal pain and dysentery are two common complaints for which traditional medicine practitioners use the bark of this tree. The African mango tree’s bark also has an extensive history of usage as a pain reliever, most often in a poultice applied externally. In some areas of Africa, people also use the bark as a toothache remedy. Check in with your physician before you use this alternative remedy for arthritis pain.

    AFRICAN MANGO TREE FACTS

The African Mango Tree species, Irvingia gabonensis, grows all over Central and West Africa. The tree’s name differs by region. Bush mango is a prevalent name for the tree and the edible fruit that it produces. Dika is a name that refers to the edible seed of the fruit and the tree.

    TRADITIONAL MEDICINE USES

Having very little scientific records, the anecdotal proof is the foundation of African folk medicine uses for African mango bark to get rid of the pain. A 2004 literature analysis and study of the economic perspective of the African mango tree conducted for the U.S. Agency for International Development holds data about traditional medicine uses for the bark. This study notes that ethnobotanists have stated that the Mende tribe in Sierre Leone mixed the ground bark of the tree’s stems with water to make a topical pain relief paste. Beyond a momentary reference to this practice, no written data is available about the ratio of water to bark or the method for applying the paste.

    RESEARCH

A single research study on mice produced proof that the bark of the Africa mango tree seems to have analgesic properties. The 1995 research, published in the “Journal of Ethnopharmacology,” compared the effect of African mango bark extracts to morphine and metamizole sodium for relieving pain from heat and pressure. This study used ethanol and water extracts from the bark of tree stems. The water extract was comparable to morphine for pain relief in the heat test, and the ethanol extract was less effective. Both extracts provided pain relief comparable to morphine and metamizole sodium in the pressure test. As of 2012, no further study has replicated these findings. No human studies on the pain relief possibility of African mango tree bark have appeared in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

    AFRICAN MANGO FOR ARTHRITIS TREATMENT

The use of analgesics to relieve arthritis pain is a popular method. Treatments vary from topical creams and ointments to oral analgesics, such as ibuprofen, acetaminophen and prescription medications. Every one of these alternatives has the drawback of necessitating repetitive use for the reason that they merely offer short-term pain relief. The inadequate research on the pain-relieving characteristics of African mango bark has not created any trustworthy scientific backing for the usage of African mango or any material about potential side effects of topical use.

13 Somali Pirates in the Royal Navy's Net

The Royal marine captured 13 pirates and seized their weapons. According to the Defense Secretary Mr. Philip Hammond, “ UK troops, part of a Nato-led force could be proud of this success”.

The minister Mr. Hammond said that, the Royal Navy and Royal Marines guarantees that international sea lanes are vital to global trade and therefore are doing their utmost best in securing and protecting the lanes.

A Ministry of Defense spokesman said the suspected pirates had been placed on board RFA Fort Victoria “while investigations continue to determine whether there is sufficient evidence to prosecute”.

He added that this operation is clear evidence that the British are able and capable of dealing with piracy of any sort that threatens our interest.

This firm and positive action will also send a clear message to other Somali pirates that we will not tolerate their attacks on international shipping.

Danish Authorities Urged to Accelerate Efforts Against Human Trafficking

The Danish authorities have been asked to come up with effective and precautionary methods to alert the public about human trafficking for the purpose of labor abuse. This is principally in the agriculture, construction and cleaning sectors. The council of Europe’s group of Experts on Action against Trafficking in Human beings (GRETA) expressed concern about a government focus on illegal immigration and identifying trafficking victims.

GRETA calls for the Danish government to ensure that victims of trafficking are treated as persons who are victims of human trafficking instead of being seen as traffickers themselves. In addition, victims of trafficking should be allowed the process of recovery. Finally, it demands that victims should be given the time to reflect on their trauma instead lengthy suspension to organize their repatriation from the country.
