Nigerian ‘Male Model’ Wins Stay on Deportation From Ireland

    0

A man of Nigerian origin who had an Irish ex-girlfriend has been given a provisional resident permit to prevent his deportation. The girlfriend claimed she was tricked to believe the man was an ex ‘male model’ who is now working for a UK property firm. However, she found out the man had a criminal record and lied to her.

On Friday January 20, 2012 at the High Court, Mr Justice Gerard Hogan made it clear the temporary permit was prompted “exclusively” by his worries for the ultimate well-being of a child – Baby C – fathered by the man with the Irish woman, and the possible right of a child to the care and company of both parents.

The stay was granted solely in the context of uncompleted District Court proceedings here in relation to the man’s access and custody rights in relation to Baby C. The man has another child with another woman but they live in London.

While it was difficult to view the application by the man for guardianship of, and access to, Baby C “without some degree of skepticism – perhaps even cynicism”, that matter was exclusively to be decided by the District Court, he said.

As the District Court may rule it was in the interests of Baby C her father enjoy either rights of access or even guardianship, he would stay enforcement of deportation pending the outcome of the District Court application.

If the man won in the District Court, the matter would be re-assessed with the State’s vital interest in an effective immigration system balanced against the child’s right to the care and company of her father. If the man lost, the stay on deportation would lapse.

The judge had earlier this month lifted a previous injunction preventing the man’s deportation on grounds of material non-disclosure by the man of several matters.

The man came here in March 2009 with a Nigerian passport in the name of another man, Mr X, which had a valid Irish entry visa, plus an Austrian identity card. He presented himself at immigration as Mr X but sought asylum under his real name.

Mr X’s passport had been stolen from him in Vienna, leading to the Nigerian man ultimately pleading guilty here in May 2009 to handling stolen property and receiving a six-month sentence.

He sought asylum on grounds he fled Nigeria as a result of threats following his engagement to a Muslim woman when he was a Christian and also alleged his fiancee was murdered. The Refugee Appeals Tribunal dismissed his claims as not credible.

The man then sought to revoke deportation on grounds he had two Irish citizen children but that application was also rejected. He then sought to stay the deportation in the context of the Baby C access case.

Mr Justice Hogan said, as it was probable the man’s other child, born in Belfast, would live permanently in London with her mother and as the man was excluded from the UK following a conviction there for dishonesty, the position of that child was irrelevant in this case.

Dealing with the Baby C situation, he noted the man at some stage became involved with a professional qualified Irish woman – Ms Y – who intended to move to the UK to practice her profession.

Ms Y later alleged she was cruelly deceived by the man who somehow managed to lead an affluent lifestyle and led her to believe he was previously a male model, now working for a UK property firm, but never disclosed he had a criminal record and was in the asylum process.

Ms Y claimed she found herself unexpectedly pregnant in April 2010 and the relationship foundered soon after when she found allegedly compromising messages from another woman on the man’s phone. The man denied her claims.

Baby C was born in late 2010 and Ms Y claimed the man only sought access three months later. She alleged his guardianship proceedings are an opportunistic ploy to use his paternity of Baby C to his advantage in immigration proceedings.

There seemed very little prospect Ms Y and the man could be reconciled and therefore it could be assumed, if the man was deported, Baby C would have no contact with her father, the judge said. In those circumstances, he granted the stay pending the District Court outcome.

Here are some 13 stylish African native attires for men.

If you thinking only women are fashion crazy, you must have a rethink. According to what a new research has revealed, men are vainer than women. The research said men spend more time getting ready to go out than women. So, there you have it.

So, as you all know, African fashion has been growing tremendously and both fashionista men are women are now proudly wearing their native attires. That is why we’re presenting you 13 .

While some people think it is only women that are crazy about looking great, men actually do. Back to the research I talked about in the beginning, it says men spend an average of 81 on everyday personal grooming. According to the research, women spend about 75 minutes on their daily routines. So, as you can see, it is actually men that spend more time looking good on a daily basis and not women.

The research says men spend that average 81 minutes on shaving, cleansing, toning and moisturizing their skin, styling their hair and very importantly, choosing the clothes to wear.

The research, carried out for Travelodge, found that on an average morning men spend 23 minutes in the shower, compared to 22 minutes for women.

Men then take 18 minutes on their shaving regime, compared to 14 minutes for women despite them having to trim legs, armpits and bikini line.

Men take a minute longer – 10 minutes – on cleansing, toning and moisturizing.

Choosing an outfit is also a time-consuming operation for men who want to look their best – taking 13 minutes compared to 10 minutes for women.

The study also found that the average British person does not have a clue regarding the true value of their toiletry bag.

When quizzed, the average adult estimated their wash bag with contents to be worth £52.23 when in reality the bag of essentials is worth nearly three times more at £156.69.

A spokeswoman for Travelodge said they had seen a rise in the number of toiletry bags being left behind in their 487 hotels.

In the last 12 months, hotel staff has spent hundreds of hours uniting 10,000 wash bags with their owners.

In one case a customer paid more than £100 for a courier to pick up her toiletry bag, which she had left behind in a London hotel – the designer wash bag had nearly £1,000 worth of toiletry items.

Nigerian Sheep Delivers Half-human Monster-like Creature

Sokoto metropolis occupants are yet to reconcile with the unbelievable incident that took place in the city lately. That was when a sheep gave birth to a Half-human Monster-like Creature at a government owned veterinary clinic in the Sokoto State capital.

On Monday the 22nd of January this year at about 5pm local time, residents were brought the shocking news of a sheep that gave birth to a half-human monster-like creature. The monstrous being was discovered during a surgical operation carried out on the sheep by Veterinary surgeons in the state.

Daily Sun learnt that the failure of the sheep to give birth made it essential for a surgical operation to be carried out on the sheep. That was when the sheep was delivered of the monster baby that looked half-human. The event which took place at Fakon Idi Veterinary Clinic drew thousands of spectators that trooped out from different parts of the metropolis to have a look at the strange creature that has been delivered.

It took the intervention of men of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NCDSC) in the state to dissolve the colossal crowd who were demanding that the owner of the animal should come out to enlighten them on what led to the mystery birth even as they maintained that the owner must be investigated and probably executed. Some of the eye witnesses who spoke with the Daily Sun probed the event that led to the detection of the monster-like lamb, with many arguing that a man might have had a sexual affair with the animal.

According to Garba Aminu, a commercial motorcycle rider, “This is an abomination in our land. To see a sheep give birth to a half human being is a mystery and that shows how terrible some people are. It is unimaginable that some people will be having intercourse with animals.”
Another observer, who merely gave his name as Danladi, pondered how such a development could have transpired in a morally upright state like Sokoto where the Islamic faith is so deep.

When the Sun News correspondent sought official response to the mystery birth, the surgeons that carried-out the operation had a different view. Deputy Zonal Director, Veterinary Clinic in the state Ministry of Forestry and Animal Health, Dr. Ismail Usman, discredited the tales going about that the sheep was delivered of a human-like being.
“It was a surprise that people’s perspective could be so negative when it comes to scientific reasoning and thoughts. In fact, the meaning attached to the development on the pregnant sheep by the onlookers was embarrassing.” Dr. Usman stated.
He explained that the sheep was supposed to have been delivered two days earlier but could not, a condition that he termed as uncommon amongst animals, particularly sheep.

His words: “When they brought the animal down to our office here, it was discovered that the sheep had some problems during its pregnancy. That was responsible for the abnormal growth and the shape of the inborn lamb.”
He directed all owners of livestock in the state to take the health of their animals very seriously, remarking that there are sufficient veterinary personnel in the state to attend to their health cases.

“Bringing animals for antenatal exercise would be a great help in curtailing any abnormalities during pregnancies.”
Another expert, Dr. Dahiru Sani who was one of the surgeons that carried out the operation on the controversial sheep said infections such as German measles, excess drugs and radiation could cause such deformities in animal pregnancy.
According to him, “every layman would believe that such a picture is a human-like animal, but in science, it is just a condition that caused the incident.”

Judgement Expected in Italy’s Somalian and Eritrean Migrants Case

    0

Human rights judges will soon deliver their judgement in a case that involved Italy intercepting Somalian and Eritrean migrants at sea and deporting them to Libya.

Judgement Expected in Italy's Somalian and Eritrean Migrants Case

The European Court of Human Rights’ Grand Chamber final judgment in the case of Hirsi Jamaa and Others v. Italy (application no. 27765/09), is expected at a public hearing scheduled for Thursday 23 February.

    Principal facts

The applicants are 11 Somalian and 13 Eritrean nationals. They were part of a group of about 200 people who left Libya in 2009 on board three boats bound for Italy. On 6 May 2009, when the boats were 35 miles south of Lampedusa (Agrigento), within the maritime search and rescue region under the responsibility of Malta, they were intercepted by Italian Customs and Coastguard vessels. The passengers were transferred to the Italian military vessels and taken to Tripoli.

The applicants say that during the journey the Italian authorities did not tell them where they were being taken, or check their identity. Once in Tripoli they were handed over to the Libyan authorities.

At a press conference on 7 May 2009 the Italian Minister of the Interior explained that the interception of the vessels on the high seas and the return of the migrants to Libya was in accordance with the bilateral agreements with Libya that entered into force on 4 February 2009, marking a turning point in the fight against illegal mmigration.

    Complaint

The applicants consider that their case falls within the jurisdiction of Italy. Relying on Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights (prohibition of inhuman or degrading treatment), they argue that the decision of the Italian authorities to send them back to Libya exposed them to the risk of ill-treatment there, as well as to the
serious threat of being sent back to their countries of origin (Somalia and Eritrea), where they might also face ill-treatment.

They also complain that they were subjected to collective expulsion prohibited by Article 4 of Protocol No. 4 (prohibition of collective expulsion of aliens) of the Convention. Lastly, relying on Article 13 (right to an effective remedy), they complain that they had no effective remedy against the alleged violations of Article 3 and Article 4 of Protocol No. 4.

The application was lodged with the European Court of Human Rights on 26 May 2009.

On 15 February 2011 the Chamber to which the case had been allocated relinquished jurisdiction in favour of the Grand Chamber. A hearing took place in public in the Human Rights Building, Strasbourg on 22 June 2011.

The following have been authorised to intervene as a third party (under Article 36 § 2 of the Convention):

    • the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees,
    • the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights,
    • the non-governmental organisations Aire Center, Amnesty International, and International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH),
    • the non-governmental organisation Human Rights Watch, and
    • the Columbia Law School Human Rights Clinic.
