    Le Reve Events producers of hit show MUSIC MEETS RUNWAY (MMR) is proud to announce Music Meets Runway 2012 MODEL CASTING.

    Music Meets Runway 2012 Nigeria - Official Casting Call For Models!

    As part of its set of campaigns leading to this year’s show, MMR had earlier on in July 2012 announced its call for fashion designers. Designers interested in showcasing in this year’s amazing event were given an opportunity to be part of the show by sending in mandatory requirements. This was a tremendous success as designers from all parts of Nigeria and Africa sent in their works for consideration for this year’s show. We are however now pleased to announce that the designer call is closed as the stated deadline for designers request was on Friday, August 31, 2012.

    Participating designers will now be selected by a panel of creative judges with a final list of selected designers to be announced shortly.

    In preparation for this year’s highly anticipated show, MMR is rolling out a MODEL CASTING campaign with an official casting event slated for the SATURDAY, 13TH OCTOBER 2012, at thenew N-TYCE LOUNGE, 1310 KARIMU KOTUN STREET, VICTORIA ISLAND, LAGOS at 12PM PROMPT.

    REQUIREMENTS FOR MODEL CASTING

    You must be at least 18 years of age to participate. Both female & male models of 5’7″ and above are encouraged to apply.

    Rhoda Wilson emerges as the winner of Best Media Personality of the Year at The Nigerian Entertainment and Lifestyle Awards 2012.

    Rhoda Wilson has won the award for Best Media Personality of the year at the Nigerian Entertainment & Lifestyle Awards which took place on September 22 at the NH Harrington Hotel. The award is in recognition of Rhoda’s contribution to the world of Television and The Media in the UK as a member of the Nigerian Diaspora.

    Her mantra of “Inspiring You to Aspire to Life” has been maintained throughout the course of her media career. It was with great pride that Rhoda received her award and is a testament to her efforts to raise the profile and visibility of the BME community in the UK and abroad.

    The Nigerian Entertainment and Lifestyle Awards (NEL Awards) was launched in 2011 and is the first of its kind in the UK celebrating and recognising the achievements of Nigerians in the Entertainment and Lifestyle sectors.

    Gone are the days the Majority of African clothmakers who were regular tailors with no designing skills and a brand attached to their pieces. Today’s African clothe makers have revolutionised the way Africas ad the world see African fashion.     Some call it the tribal beat, and many ankara lovers also love colourful prints. One of the favorites is the floral print as it oozes the aura of the ankara African print. For those who like to combine prints, the ankara African fabric can also be combined with a floral or block print. Choosing the right prints to combine is what makes the difference between a super chic and trendy outfit and a super busy and trashy one.

    Brides of Culture (BoC) Autumn Wedding Exhibition

    On Saturday 8 September 2012, the Brides of Culture autumn free wedding exhibition took place and as its media partner, AfroCosmopolitan was there to cover the event. Below is some of the interesting exhibitors that were present.

    The Brides of Culture (BoC) autumn wedding exhibition provided an invaluable insight into the ever-growing possibilities for AfroCarribean brides looking to plan their own one-of-kind wedding day.

    The BoC exhibition, which was held last Saturday (8th October) at The Crowne Plaza Hotel in London Docklands, gave brides the chance to see just how easy it is to plan their dream wedding by presenting them with a range of unique services tailored towards creating a wedding with a cultural twist!

    On hand during the day were Cherish Events alongside SN Travel, their designated travel agent, in order to offer couples a bespoke wedding ceremony in Jamaica. Exhibitor for Cherish Events, Helen Watson said: ‘It’s important to be completely indispensable to the bride so she can be stress-free. We exhibit alongside SN Travel who provide flights to make planning as simple and enjoyable as possible’.

    One exhibitor showcasing her bespoke bridal and evening gowns on the day was Kemi Farquarson. As a new designer, Kemi embraces the opportunity to engage with brides-to-be as well as other exhibitors. She said: “The organisers have put on a fabulous show and I’m honored to exhibit at BoC, one of the largest multicultural bridal shows in the UK.

    ‘As a plus size bridal designer, it is always great to meet brides to be and offer them a bespoke service that will not only reflect their culture but provide them with elegant gowns that also accentuates their curves’.

    For the bride looking to keep slim, or find a way to relax as the big day draws near, there was even an opportunity to have a go at trying some yoga! Kemi Yoga was actively exhibiting their different yoga packages throughout the day including yoga boot-camp, yoga parties, one-off yoga, and yoga at home.

    These are just a few examples illustrating the variety of exhibitors on show. Other stalls offered cake & food tasting, wedding photography services, venue decorating and much more! Each service was limited to three exhibitors to allow visitors to experience a wide-ranging selection.

    Guests also had the chance to take part in unique master-classes given by wedding industry experts.

    Brides of Culture have been hosting bridal exhibitions for several years now and aspires to be the largest Multicultural Bridal Exhibition in the UK. You’ll almost definitely walk away with tonnes of inspiration and new ideas as well as a free goody bag full of information and contacts so you’ll know who to call.
