Obama Wept While Thanking Campaign Team

    0

Obama wept and said, ‘I’m really proud of all of you’ and broke down in tears as he thanks his campaign team for a job well done in securing him a second chance to become the president of the United States.

‘I try to picture myself when I was your age, and I first moved to Chicago at the age of 25, and I had this vague inkling about making a difference I didn’t really know how to do it I didn’t have a structure,’ The president told his young team.

‘When I come here and I look at all of you what comes to mind is not that you guys actually remind me of myself its the fact that you are so much better than I was in so many ways- you’re smarter, you’re better organized, you’re more effective.

‘I’m absolutely confident that all of you are going to do just amazing things in your lives. You’re just going to do great things.”

‘Your journey is just beginning, you’re just starting and whatever good we do over the next four years will pale in comparison to what you guys end up accomplishing for years and years to come. That’s been my source of hope.’

‘Even before last night’s results, I felt that the work I had done in running for office had come full circle because what you guys have done means that the work that I’m doing is important, and I’m really proud of that, and I’m really proud of all of you,’ Obama said while showing appreciation to his young team of fresh graduates that put in their work in order to make sure of a successful campaign.

President Obama Wins Second Term As President Of The United States

    0
President Obama WinsSecond Term As President Of The United StatesVictory for the Democrats as President Obama wins second term with a majority. When results started coming up, Romney seemed to likely be the winner as he was slightly ahead of Obama. However, Romney’s victory did not last long as Obama took over and immediately overtook him with almost a million votes.

At the end of the polls, Obama emerged the winner of Virginia giving him 303 electoral votes while Romney had only 206. That made Obama win 33 seats than what was needed to become the President of the United States.

In the U.S., having a majority of the votes does not decide the winner of a presidential election. What does is the number of electoral state votes of which 270 of the 509 are needed to be declared the winner.

Racists in Italy Are Few And Stupid, Balotelli Tells TIME Magazine

    0

In an extensive interview with Time Magazine, Mario Balotelli said racists are stupid whose ways are impossible to change.

The Manchester City’s striker has suffered racist abuse especially from his homeland Italy, while he was playing for Inter Milan.

In his view, “Racist people are few and you can do nothing against [to change] them.”

“You can talk, you can do what you want, but you can’t do anything because they are just stupid people.

“When I wasn’t famous, I had a lot of friends, almost all of them Italian,” he states. “The racism only started when I started to play football.”

“But me, personally, I hope I can help Italy to be a modern country like England or America.”

He spoke further about how proud he was to see a black man like Barack Obama become the president of the United States. And said he hope to meet him sometime in the future.

“I was really happy and I think it’s something different,” said Balotelli.

“I was really happy to see a black man be the chief [commander-in-chief]. I would like to meet him.”

His relationship with Robert Mancini, City manager, has not been a very good one. However, Balotelli says he sees him as a father.

“Now I don’t go out,” said Balotelli. “This year I don’t go out, so it can rain as much as it wants, because I’m in the house!

“My relationship with Mancini is really important, He’s known me since I was young and he’s like a father to me.

“I used to play with the young children at Inter Milan, so I know him very well and I can tell him anything.”

Know How To Keep Weight Off Before You Lose It

Know How To Keep Weight Off Before You Lose It

With all the talk about obesity in America, you might be surprised to know that most people are pretty good at losing weight.

Weight loss programs have proven effective in helping people drop pounds. But keeping them off is another story.

Studies have shown that overweight participants typically give up their newly learned health habits and regain 30 to 50% of the weight they lost within one year, even if they participate in a post-weight loss maintenance program.

“There’s something we’re missing in terms of what it takes to maintain our weight,” says Michaela Kiernan, an expert in behavioral weight management at the Stanford Prevention Research Center.

Kiernan is the lead author on a new study publishing in the Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology titled “Promoting Healthy Weight with ‘Stability Skills First.’”

Kiernan and her colleagues hypothesized that people would keep weight off better if they practiced doing so first. Their hypothesis was based on social cognitive theory – that having confidence in your ability to do something actually helps you do it.

    The study

More than 260 overweight and obese females were split randomly into two groups. Both groups participated in a six-month “intervention” period that included a weight loss program and a weight maintenance program.

In the “weight loss first” group, the women participated in a 20-week behavioral weight loss program, followed by an eight-week “problem-solving” maintenance program. Their maintenance program addressed obstacles the women might face in the upcoming year.

In the “maintenance first” group, the women participated in an eight-week “stability skills” maintenance program, where they were asked not to lose any weight.

They learned how to fine-tune their eating behaviors – savoring food mindfully, for instance, or leaving small amounts on their plate – “to get away from the idea that you’re either on a diet or off a diet,” Kiernan says. That group then participated in an identical 20-week weight loss program.

    The results

Both groups lost an average of 16 pounds during the six-month intervention program. But after 12 months, the “weight loss first” group had gained back an average of seven pounds. In comparison, the “maintenance first” group had only gained back three pounds.

    Why?

The study capitalizes on two key factors for weight loss maintenance: Confidence and motivation, says Kim Gorman, weight management program director for the Anschutz Health and Wellness Center at the University of Colorado. Gorman was not involved with the research.

Asking “maintenance first” participants not to lose weight during the first eight weeks allowed them to learn important skills without fear, Gorman says.

“I say fear because so many of my folks lose a significant amount of weight and then fear a slight shift upward means the boat is sinking. I think (the study authors) contended with the emotional impacts associated with the scale … in short, they were prepared.”

Gorman was pleased to see that the “maintenance first” group didn’t lose their motivation for losing weight – evidenced by the fact that both groups dropped the same amount in six months.

Kiernan says the maintenance group may have benefited from that early energy. “Most of the time by the time they get to maintenance, they’re pooped,” she says. “This way it’s kind of a protected time to try things.”

    Going forward

Because the study incorporated new timing (maintenance first) and new skills (stability over problem-solving) for one group, it’s impossible to tell if one or both was behind the “maintenance first” group’s success. Going forward Kiernan would like to “untangle” those, she says. “Is it the content or the order?”

The researchers would also like to duplicate the study in men and see if technology – like e-mail alerts or online classes – could play a bigger role.

ECJ Confirms Air Passengers Can Claim Compensation For Delayed Flights

    3

Good news to EU air passengers as they can now claim compensations of between 250 and 600 euros for flights delayed for about 3 hours and above.

This ruling was made by the European Court of Justice (ECJ). According to the ruling, such passengers should be regarded as being in comparable situation with those whose flight were cancelled in the last minute. This is based on the principle of equal treatment for all consumers. With this reasoning, delayed passengers are alleged to have suffered similar inconveniences that were encountered by those whose flight were cancelled. The loss of time in arriving at their destination as scheduled by the airlines.

To strike balance between both parties, delayed passengers has no right to compensation if an airline can prove the delay was as a result of extraordinary circumstances that could not be avoided.

According to Lain Osborne, CAA Director of Regulatory Policy, “Every year around 200 million passengers travel on two million flights to and from the UK, with the vast majority experiencing no problems. However, when something does go wrong, there are regulations in place to protect travellers, and the CAA is ready to ensure companies abide by them.

Before this ECJ ruling, delayed passengers were only entitled to claims for refreshments, meals and 2 free telephone calls. In the case of an overnight delays, passengers were entitled to hotel accommodations as well as transfers to and from their hotels.

In opposition to CAA’s interpretation of due compensation, an easyJet spokeswoman said, the airline welcomed the clarity even though it is disappointed by the outcome.
