Health: 9 Signs You Have Uterine Fibroids

Fibroids are noncancerous tumours that develop in or around the uterus (womb). A lot of women with uterine fibroids have no symptoms or just very mild signs. This is because the fibroids in and around their wombs are too small and do not really cause them any problems. However, it may slowly get worse as the size of the uterine fibroids gets bigger and begin to put pressure on other organs.

    Painful Periods
Most women suffering from fibroids usually goes through painful periods. If you are in such a situation, it may be a sign you have fibroids and the best thing to do is to visit your gynaecologist for proper examination.

    Heavy Periods
Fibroids affects a woman’s monthly period and results to heavy bleeding. Sometimes, these heavy bleeding are accompanied by blood clots. If you have heavy periods that requires very frequent changes, it may be a sign you have fibroids and need to go for a thorough checkup.

    Belly Bump
Yes, you read that right. Uterine fibroids tumours can make you have a belly bump that will make people wonder you’re pregnant. If you’re not pregnant but look pregnant, it’s time to consult your gynaecologist for examination to enable you know the next line of action to take.

    Frequent Urge to Urinate
Urinary frequency among women is often associated with uterus fibroids. If you urinate more than you normally would, it may be a sign you have uterine fibroids. This is because the weight of the fibroid tumour or tumours sits on the bladder and put too much pressure on it.

    Painful Sex
Most women with a reasonable sized uterine fibroid usually have pain during sex. If you have pains that make you feel like a virgin each time you make love, it may be you have fibroids and needs to see your gynaecologist from proper examination.

    Long Periods
Long periods that may last longer than normal is one of the symptoms of women living with fibroids. Women in this group can have periods that last as long as seven days and even longer.

    Miscarriage
Depending on the location and size of your uterine fibroids, it may lead to miscarriage. The closer your fibroid is to the centre of your uterus, where a fetus is likely to implant – the more chances it can cause you problems and lead to a miscarriage.

    Fatigue
Fatigue is another symptom associated with uterine fibroids. This happens when uterine fibroids causes very heavy menstrual periods that lead to a serious anemia or low blood count.

    Infertility
In some cases, uterine fibroids can lead to infertility and ruin the chances of becoming a mother for some women.

Not long ago, Nigerian celebrity fashion designer, Tianniah Styling shared photos and stories of her fibroids and how they were surgically removed. In an Instagram post, the mother of two narrated her struggle with the benign tumor and how it was finally taken away.

Pan African Triggerfish Story Lab Scores With Short For Disney

    0

    • Triggerfish is releasing Mike Scott’s ‘A Dogshow with Cat,’ a South African animation short licensed by The Walt Disney Company
    • ‘A Dogshow with Cat’ is the first animation to come from last year’s Triggerfish Story Lab
    • Triggerfish is presenting four TV series from the Story Lab at Annecy
    • ‘Stick Man’ in competition at Annecy in the TV films section, having just won Best Animation at Shanghai

Annecy, 13 June 2016: Triggerfish Animation Studios is releasing A Dogshow with Cat, a South African animation short that has been licensed by The Walt Disney Company.

A Dogshow with Cat is the first animation to come from last year’s Triggerfish Story Lab, established by Triggerfish with the support of South Africa’s Department of Trade and Industry and The Walt Disney Company.

The Story Lab’s continent-wide search for animated African stories received nearly 1400 entries from 30 countries across the continent. Triggerfish selected four features and four TV series for development, after input from Disney and the likes of Aardman’s Oscar-nominated co-founder Peter Lord and The Lion King writer Jonathan Roberts.

A Dogshow with Cat is a teaser for Mike Scott’s series of the same name, which is set in the South African outback and is about the madcap antics of a sophisticated dog and his best friend, a feral, obsessive-compulsive cat.

The three-minute short is part of Disney XD FC (#DisneyXDFC), a series of football-themed shorts commissioned from leading animation talent across Europe, Africa, Latin America and the United States. A Dogshow with Cat is the only short included from Africa.

Users can log on each week to Disney XD’s Youtube Page to view the original productions.

Mike is best known for his animated music videos for South African DJ duo Goldfish, which have over 17 million views on YouTube.

A Dogshow with Cat is Mike’s second collaboration with Triggerfish, following on from Moosebox, which was part of the 2013-2014 Nickelodeon International Animated Shorts Program.

Stick Man in competition at Annecy
Triggerfish is currently attending Annecy International Animated Film Festival and Market, running until 18 June 2016 in France.

Stick Man, Triggerfish’s collaboration with the Oscar-nominated Magic Light Pictures, is competing at Annecy in the TV Films category. Based on Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s much-loved children’s picture book, Stick Man is the story of a happy-go-lucky father’s epic journey to make it home in time for Christmas.

Voiced by the likes of Martin Freeman (The Hobbit), Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey), and Jennifer Saunders (Absolutely Fabulous), the short film screened to nearly 10m people on BBC1 at Christmas 2015.

Stick Man was recently named Best Animation at Shanghai International Film and TV Festival. In March, it also won two British Animation Awards.

Triggerfish is currently collaborating with Magic Light Pictures on another Christmas special BBC adaptation, this time of Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes.

Triggerfish’s strongest lineup at Annecy yet
At Annecy, CEO Stuart Forrest, head of production Mike Buckland, and head of development Anthony Silverston will be representing A Dogshow With Cat and the other three TV series being developed through the Story Lab.

Malenga Mulendema’s Mama K’s Super 4 follows four African teen girls who are recruited by a former secret agent to a low-budget superhero operation.

Lucy Heavens’ Wormholes is about three teen cosmic worms who adventure through wormholes to the far reaches of the Zooniverse, and help all manner of creatures deal with anything from planetary threats to boring meanies.

Kelly Dillon and Marc Dey’s Ninja Princess follows Zoe, who tackles ordinary obstacles in an extraordinary preschool, with the skills of a ninja and the grace of a princess.

“This is Triggerfish’s strongest lineup for Annecy yet – and probably South Africa’s too,” says Stuart. “In addition to Stick Man, three of our employees – Wisaal Abbas, Alex Bain and Nicholas Danks – have their graduation film Arid in competition in the student category, while Naomi van Niekerk’s powder animation, ‘n Gewone Blou Maandagoggend, is competing in the short film category. Clea Mallison, who edited A Dogshow with Cat for us, is also pitching her short Fairy Wheels at Animation du Monde, and we’re also expecting a lot of interest in Kariba, by our collaborators The Blue Forest Collective, which was over 200% funded on Kickstarter earlier this year. So it’s exciting times for South African animation.”

ADE BAKARE COUTURE’S CRUISE LINE COLLECTION TO DEBUT AT AFWN ’16

    0

Ade Bakare Couture is the headline designer of the 2016 edition of Africa Fashion Week Nigeria taking place in Lagos. The London based brand will be debuting it’s cruise line collection at the three day long fashion event.

The word, ‘cruise’ evokes travel, luxury, style, boats, yachts and summer.

Ade Bakare Couture has designed a capsule Cruise Line Collection for summer 2016, influenced by his constant travels between London and Lagos where he maintains his design studios and boutique respectively.

The Ade Bakare Couture Cruise Line has been greatly inspired by his clients on both sides of the Atlantic who desire something colourful, modern and ethnic to wear while abroad. To satisfy these demands, Ade Bakare came up with an exquisite range of vibrant jackets and dresses in neoprene textiles and adire in modern geometric and circular designs embellished with his unique signature style of wood and glass intersected with beads that sparkle.

High-necked coats with eyelets that are roped with silk adire and large balloon sleeves, capes and empire-cut jackets are teamed with straight silk adire dresses, some cut off the shoulder, whilst sleeveless shift dresses and halter neck styles are all shown in bright effervescent colours such as neon pinks, yellows, deep purple and cobalt blues.

Picture a slight commotion at the airport as a lady emerges from the crowd in a vibrant orange neoprene coat and an adire orange and yellow dress with heaps of her luggage being moved by several porters and imagine that behind her bejeweled reflective glasses lies that anonymity of reserved elegance . . . she just might be wearing the 2016 Cruise Line by Ade Bakare Couture!
