Nigerian Lesbian Asylum-seeker Plans To Submit Her Gay Sex Tape To Prevent Deportation

Nigerian Lesbian Asylum-seeker Plans To Submit Her Gay Sex Tape To Prevent Deportation

Aderonke Apata felt she had tried everything to persuade the Home Office she was gay. She’d sent letters from former girlfriends – both in Britain and Nigeria – and supporting statements from friends.

But once her claim that she could be killed because of her sexuality if sent back to Nigeria was rejected, she felt there was only one way of providing a judge with irrefutable evidence that she was gay: by sending a very personal home video.

On Monday Ms Apata will hand in a petition to Theresa May, the Home Secretary, demanding that the deportation of all LGBT asylum-seekers is halted until a review of their treatment is concluded.

Sitting with her girlfriend, Happiness Agboro, in a bar on Manchester’s Canal Street, Ms Apata, 47, reveals the traumatic ordeal she has experienced: “I was asked to bring my supporting documents for my judicial review for the court to look at. What evidence do we have to compile apart from letters from people? I knew we had a home video of ourselves, so I thought why not just put it in? I cannot afford to go back to my county where I will be tortured, so if I have to prove it with a sexual video, then I have to do it.”

Her experience is echoed by many LGBT asylum-seekers in Britain who are having to go to extreme lengths to persuade sceptical immigration officers of their sexuality. She still feels distraught at having shared such an intimate record of her personal life.

“I feel so bad it’s got to this stage. It’s such a desperate and precarious situation to be in, very dangerous, because anything could happen to those pictures, those videos.”

The Home Secretary ordered a review of how border officials handle gay asylum claims in March after leaked documents revealed that inappropriate interrogation techniques were being used to make people “prove” they were homosexual.

Ms Apata will present her petition at a meeting with the Independent Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration, attended by asylum-seekers and activists in Manchester.

When she came to Britain from Nigeria in 2004, her asylum claim was on religious grounds. She came from a Christian family, but had married a Muslim man in what she says was a sham arrangement to cover up her long-term relationship with another woman.

According to Ms Apata, her husband’s family turned against her as they suspected she was gay. They took her to a sharia court, where she was sentenced to death for adultery. She says her brother and three-year-old son were killed in related vigilante incidents.

Ms Apata ran away and went into hiding after two appeals for asylum were rejected, living on the streets in Manchester to make sure she would not be deported.

In 2012, after being caught working as a care manager with a false visa, she tried again to apply for asylum – saying she feared returning to Nigeria and being persecuted for her sexuality.

This latest asylum claim was also rejected, despite the fact that Ms Apata gave testimony that her ex-girlfriend in Nigeria was killed in a vigilante attack in 2012 and the country’s law now punishes homosexuality with up to 14 years’ imprisonment.

Ms Apata’s story has rapidly garnered mass support, with one petition demanding Theresa May halt her deportation already attracting more than 230,000 signatures.

A judicial review has now been granted in her case and she is hopeful she will finally have the right to live freely in Britain with her girlfriend.

A Home Office spokeswoman said: “We do not remove anyone at risk of persecution because of their sexuality. We provide dedicated guidance and training to those dealing with such asylum claims, and all applications are carefully considered in line with our international obligations.”

For Ms Apata, the threat of deportation has proved too much and she has recently been hospitalised with complex post-traumatic stress disorder. “I want sanctuary,” she says. “I just want to be protected. I want to be who I am.”

    0

If you love pretty pastels and looking for ways to make work for you, take a look at this post and follow the steps Laura has put together to help you achieve this look to become flawless and effortlessly glam.

Pretty Pastels By Laura Mercier: How To Achieve It

Laura Mercier Brand Ambassador Matin Maulawizada shows you how to create this soft-eyed look.

    1. The best way to apply soft shades on dark skin is to make sure you use high pigment products so they show on the skin and do not look ashy. Start by creating the perfect skin tone by applying a good foundation and adding Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage under the eyes and on blemishes.
    2. Using a pigmented creamy product like a kohl pencil applies over the lid, in the corner, and along the lower lash line then blend with either your finger or eyeshadow brush. This will provide a good base for the eyeshadow.

    3. Set the pencil with a setting powder like Laura Mercier Invisible Loose Setting Powder. This will ensure that the makeup will stay in place, last longer and not crease.

    4. Follow this with Laura Mercier Baked Eye Colour in Violet Sky. Using the eyeshadow dry provides a soft pretty finish while applying wet gives the colour more intensity when needed.

    5. The beauty of this look comes from the simplicity of the eyes to keep the focus there and finish the look with a nude lip-gloss or lipstick.

Deported Nigerian Students To Return To School In Regina

Deported Nigerian Students To Return To School In Regina

Two deported Nigerian students who were returned to their homeland for violating terms of their student visas will return to study in Saskatchewan.

Kay Adebogun, who is the senior immigration counsel for the women, told CBC News the Canadian government has allowed them back into the country.

“I’m still of the opinion that they shouldn’t have been sent back for that simple error. So that was why we needed to do whatever we can legally to make this day happen,” said Adebogun.

Michelle Stewart, a justice studies professor at the University of Regina and an ongoing supporter of the students, also confirmed the two were en route to the city to continue attending university classes.

    Deportation orders

For a few weeks in 2011, Victoria Ordu and Favour Amadi, the deported Nigerian students, worked at a Walmart in Regina. Both said they did not realize it was not permitted under the terms of their student visas.

Soon after, they received deportation orders from the federal government.

For more than a year, the women took refuge in four different city churches after learning they would be forced to leave the country.

On October 11, 2013, the two returned to Nigeria voluntarily in the hope that doing so would allow them to return to Canada later.

    Public support

While the women took sanctuary, they received a lot of support from people in Saskatchewan. Rallies were held to raise support for them last summer.

Since then, the Canadian government has changed its policy and as of this month, international students with study permits are allowed to work off-campus.

At the time of their departure, University of Regina president, Vianne Timmons, met Ordu and Amadi at the airport and vowed to help the students come back.

Their story also drew the attention of Liberal MP Ralph Goodale, who took their case to the House of Commons last fall and said the women should be allowed to stay.

At the time, the federal ministers responsible did not concede, despite the outcry from the women’s supporters.

Ordu and Amadi are expected to arrive in Regina from Toronto at approximately 6 p.m. CST Saturday.

Adebogun told CBC News the girls’ Nigerian government scholarships have also been reinstated.

Returning to the University of Regina

They two deported Nigerian students who are now back in Canada will start classes at the University of Regina the day after Canada Day, according to Adebogun.

“They’re so happy to be back, and looking forward to starting their studies. And above all, very very grateful to everyone who helped them one way or the other to ensure they can come back,” said Adebogun.

He is unsure where the women plan to live or if they will pursue part-time work once they arrive.

A comment from Canadian Border Services Agency was not immediately available at the time of publication.

How to Become a Millionaire by Age 30

    0

Getting rich and becoming a millionaire is a taboo topic. Saying it can be done by the age of 30 seems like a fantasy. It shouldn’t be taboo and it is possible. At the age of 21, I got out of college, broke and in debt, and by the time I was 30, I was a millionaire.

Here are the 10 steps that will guarantee you will become a millionaire by 30.

    1. Follow the money. In today’s economic environment you cannot save your way to millionaire status. The first step is to focus on increasing your income in increments and repeating that. My income was $3,000 a month and nine years later it was $20,000 a month. Start following the money and it will force you to control revenue and see opportunities.

    2. Don’t show off — show up! I didn’t buy my first luxury watch or car until my businesses and investments were producing multiple secure flows of income. I was still driving a Toyota Camry when I had become a millionaire. Be known for your work ethic, not the trinkets that you buy.

    3. Save to invest, don’t save to save. The only reason to save money is to invest it.  Put your saved money into secured, sacred (untouchable) accounts. Never use these accounts for anything, not even an emergency. This will force you to continue to follow step one (increase income). To this day, at least twice a year, I am broke because I always invest my surpluses into ventures I cannot access.

ALSO SEE: Practice Don’t Make Perfect Says “The Interceptor” Actor O-T Fagbenle.

    4. Avoid debt that doesn’t pay you. Make it a rule that you never use debt that won’t make you money. I borrowed money for a car only because I knew it could increase my income. Rich people use debt to leverage investments and grow cash flows. Poor people use debt to buy things that make rich people richer.

    5. Treat money like a jealous lover. Millions wish for financial freedom, but only those that make it a priority have millions. To get rich and stay rich you will have to make it a priority. Money is like a jealous lover. Ignore it and it will ignore you, or worse, it will leave you for someone who makes it a priority.

    6. Money doesn’t sleep. Money doesn’t know about clocks, schedules or holidays, and you shouldn’t either. Money loves people that have a great work ethic. When I was 26 years old, I was in retail and the store I worked at closed at 7 p.m. Most times you could find me there at 11 p.m. making an extra sale. Never try to be the smartest or luckiest person — just make sure you outwork everyone.

    7. Poor makes no sense. I have been poor, and it sucks. I have had just enough and that sucks almost as bad. Eliminate any and all ideas that being poor is somehow OK. Bill Gates has said, “If you’re born poor, it’s not your mistake. But if you die poor, it is your mistake.”

    8. Get a millionaire mentor. Most of us were brought up middle class or poor and then hold ourselves to the limits and ideas of that group. I have been studying millionaires to duplicate what they did. Get your own personal millionaire mentor and study them. Most rich people are extremely generous with their knowledge and their resources.

    9. Get your money to do the heavy lifting. Investing is the Holy Grail in becoming a millionaire and you should make more money off your investments than your work. If you don’t have surplus money you won’t make investments. The second company I started required a $50,000 investment. That company has paid me back that $50,000 every month for the last 10 years. My third investment was in real estate, where I started with $350,000, a large part of my net worth at the time. I still own that property today and it continues to provide me with income. Investing is the only reason to do the other steps, and your money must work for you and do your heavy lifting.

    10. Shoot for $10 million, not $1 million. The single biggest financial mistake I’ve made was not thinking big enough. I encourage you to go for more than a million. There is no shortage of money on this planet, only a shortage of people thinking big enough.

Apply these 10 steps and they will make you rich. Steer clear of people that suggest your financial dreams are born of greed. Avoid get-rich-quick schemes, be ethical, never give up, and once you make it, be willing to help others get there too.

Hear him talk about it in the video below.

Top 5 Reasons Every Wardrobe Needs Black Leggings

    1

Everyone knows about the Little Black Dress is a classic staple of women’s fashion. What they may not know is that another piece of little black clothing is also a must for any wardrobe. Black Leggings are an important addition to any woman’s closet and here’s why.

    1. They Go with Everything

Black leggings can be worn with any type of outfit. They can be worn under a dress, as pants with a top or tee shirt, or even underneath other pants to stay warmer in the winter. This versatility means that they are worth the price paid. There is no limit to the number of outfits that can be improved with the simple addition of leggings. They make dresses more demure and are a perfect alternative to pants in the warmer months. With so many options, there is no reason why anyone should not own this multi-purpose garment.

    2. Can be Both Professional and Casual

Adding black leggings under a dress instantly makes it more tasteful and work-appropriate, no matter how short or tight the dress is. Wearing black leggings helps round out any day-wear look. They also make the wearer more comfortable in situations where modesty could be an issue. To transition tonight, simply throw on a top with the leggings. This is a fun, sporty way to make a statement and look fabulous at the same time. It’s also a great way to showcase stunning tops and tee-shirts in a way that doesn’t overpower them. The tops will be able to speak for themselves without being overwhelmed by the bottoms.

    3. Gives the Booty a Boost

Most women want to make their booties more beautiful. With leggings, that’s a snap. Most leggings are typically manufactured with spandex or spandex blends, making them hug tightly to a woman’s curves. This gives the booty a natural lift, making it perkier. This works great for a night look. That extra perk will grab anyone’s attention.

    4. Makes Legs Look Thin and Trim

What can be said about the way leggings help butts can also be said about the way they help shape legs, especially the thighs. The spandex in leggings helps everything come together to give a generally more toned shape. Thighs and buns alike will look better than ever thought possible. Whether looking to attract attention or just put a good foot forward, leggings are always there to help.

    5. Extremely Comfortable

After all that, it would be natural to assume that leggings are disastrously uncomfortable. However, that is completely incorrect. Leggings are unfathomably comfortable to wear at any time in any season. Their stretch, low-weight construction allows breathability, so as not to cause sweating or discomfort in the summer. That same stretch factor also keeps in warmth in the winter. Beyond that, they are simply the most relaxed piece of clothing anyone could own. Lounging around the house and walking three miles are equally benefited by the comfort leggings can offer.

No one can go wrong with a pair of black leggings. Whether they are worn as pants or under a dress, there is no limit to the number of things leggings can do.

Afusat Saliu and Children Deported to Nigeria

    0

Family friend Anj Handa, left, with Afusat Saliu and her daughters

Failed asylum seeker, Afusat Saliu and her children deported to Nigeria. The woman, who lived in Leeds has been fighting to stay in the UK claiming she fears her daughters could face female genital mutilation if the returns to Nigeria. But she was rejected leave to remain in the United Kingdom and has now been deported to her homeland.

Below is how the BBC is reporting it.

Afusat Saliu, 31 and daughters Bassy, four and Rashidat, two, were “removed to their country of origin” on Wednesday, the Home Office said. Her lawyer Bhumika Parmar said she had spoken to Ms Saliu in Nigeria, who was “really upset at the situation”.

The Home Office said the case had “gone through the proper legal process”. Ms Saliu fled from Nigeria in 2011, claiming her stepmother had threatened to subject Bassy to female genital mutilation (FGM). Ms Saliu, herself a victim of FGM, was pregnant at the time.

    ‘Individual merits’

The UK Border Agency arrested Ms Saliu and her daughters on 28 May. Ms Parmar said she would continue to fight her case and that permission had been granted for a judicial review.

In a statement, the Home Office said: “We consider every claim for asylum on its individual merits and in this case, the claimant was not considered to be in need of protection.

“The case has gone through the proper legal process and our decision has been supported by the UK courts on five separate occasions, while the European Court of Human Rights declined an application to halt the removal.”

The family was held in a detention centre before the deportation. A previous removal order on 30 May was delayed by the Home Office. More than 120,000 people have signed a petition calling on the Home Office reconsider the case.
