Transform Your Look With Hair Extensions

    0

Hair extensions can completely transform your look, allowing you to enjoy an instant beauty upgrade. There are many types of hair extensions available, and choosing the right one will give you the look you desire.

    Hair Extensions for Hair Loss

If you are suffering from hair loss, extensions can boost your confidence and change your look. There are many specialists that work exclusively with hair loss clients and can hide any thinning or missing hair sections. You can choose from long, flowing extensions to give the illusion of length or short tresses to add body and fullness.

    Clip-In Hair Extensions

If you are looking for a temporary hair extension solution, consider clip in extensions. These extensions come outfitted with clips that allow you to simply slide them into your existing hair. With clip-in extensions, you can change your look frequently, going from dark dramatic locks to fiery red tresses in seconds. You can find a clip in hair extensions here that will fit your look and transform your style.

    Colored Hair Extensions

Changing the colour of your hair can be risky. If you want to go from brunette to blonde, you will have to endure a colouring process that will strip your hair of its natural colour. If you are not ready to take this drastic step, coloured hair extensions are the perfect solution. Find extensions in dark brown, honey blonde, fire engine red and jet black. You can even find exotic colours like lime green, electric blue and royal purple.

    Hair Extension Textures

If you have always had bone straight hair and want to go curly, you can find extensions to give you a new look instantly. Extensions come in a variety of textures, from deep wave to straight, kinky and curly. Whatever texture you desire, there is a hair extension that will meet your needs.

    Buying Your Hair Extensions

The key to making the right choice is to decide on a style and plan your purchase from there. If you are looking to cover your entire head with extensions, you may need several packs to complete your look. If you are just adding a few pieces for volume, you may require less. Hair extensions come in lengths from eight to 24 inches. The longer the hair, the more you will need for maximum volume.

Transforming your look is simple. Hair extensions will give you the look you want instantly.

5 Elegant & Chic Evening Dresses For Plus Size Women

    1

Imagine a world where one size fits all and everyone wears the same size and has exactly the same body shape and profile. There is no doubt that it would not be a very exciting world to live or shop in, because as we all know, variety is the spice of life. In past years, the leaner figure has been in the spotlight as being the more fashionably accepted figure but now, thanks to fuller figured beauties such as Kim Kardashian, Monique, Sophie Dahl and many others, this stereotype is drastically changing. Plus size men and women now appear frequently on magazines and fashion shows as well as movies and other media more than ever before. Society realizes that the plus size model has the profile that the average person can relate to more than say…a supermodel! Below are 5 elegant and chic evening dresses with style variation that every plus size woman needs to have in her wardrobe. There is nothing more sensual and sexy than seeing a plus size woman dressed in a flattering outfit that accentuates the curves and exudes pride and confidence.

    1. Sexy Little Black Dress

This is a must have in any case because it is a classic piece and as a colour, it is very slimming and can be mixed with other colours such as red, green, yellow or other contrasting colours. You can dress up or down by adding accessories or wear it to work with a smart jacket, then on its own later for drinks after work with your colleagues or a spontaneous get together with friends in town. Black is ideal because of its ability not to show dirt or stains that would require an immediate change with any other colour.

    2. Racy Red Cocktail Dress

Red is a colour that draws a lot of attention and depicts power. It shows that you are not afraid to be the centre of attention. But if you prefer to keep it subtle, opt for a burgundy shade or add some green and a bit of white or just a hint of black to relieve the intensity. Avoid the red from head to toe look as this can be too intimidating to people that might want to approach you, because “less is more!”

    3. Dashing Dinner Dress

This piece almost always has to be long and flowing to give you the feeling of luxury and sensuality. An ideal style is the Grecian goddess look with shoulder straps to show off curvy shoulders and an empire waistline to enhance cleavage. If you prefer to cover your arms, opt for an elegant shawl or a bolero type coat to keep you warm if it is a chilly evening. Complete the look with a delicate clutch purse to put your essentials in, as well as comfortable heels that will ensure to lift the hem of your dress slightly off the ground so you do not trip on your dress when walking. This look can also be worn at a wedding or red carpet event.

    4. Sizzling Summer Evening Dress

If you are on a tropical island or at a summer event and need to stay cool, rather go for a sleeveless dress so as to avoid embarrassing sweaty armpit stains (especially if you wear silk or satin!). A lot of people might not be aware of this but maxi dresses can actually keep you cooler than a short dress. You also protect your legs from the sun if the event starts before the sun goes down. As sexy as Marilyn Monroe looked in the iconic “subway dress” with the wind blowing her dress up, you cannot be guaranteed that that is how you will appear to the crowd in a short dress and a gust of wind catches you by surprise. If it is a beach setting, rather choose a light sarong dress with a thin lining that will conceal your beach wear till it is time to get into the water.

    5. Dazzling Disco Dress

Last but not the least! This look usually requires as much sparkle as possible so you can feel like the star that you are and will ensure that you shining brightly throughout the night. Again, a clutch purse is recommended but rather one with a wrist strap so you can move freely while dancing. It is also important to choose comfortable shoes to ensure that you have an enjoyable night without painful or blistered feet from extremely high heels or the lack of ankle support. Ideally, this dress needs to have stretch fibre to allow you to move freely and to avoid any wardrobe mishap that will send you home earlier than you would have intended. Unless you are at a highly respectable ball and meeting with the royal family, choose a length that is short enough to ensure you do not show your undergarments when you sit or bend over to pick something up.

All in all, these 5 pieces should be sufficient for you to be covered for any evening event at any given time and will ensure you a compliment filled evening that will give you more confidence!

Afro Hair Care In Europe: A Guide To 12 Cities

    0

Latest Hair News for both women and men

From looking at the latest trends in afro hair 2014, it is clear that there is a general sense of nostalgia and a lot of “going back to one’s roots” by a preference of more ethnic hair styles, be it a weave on, extensions or natural. For the women; styles range from thin to thick twists, box braids, tight top buns, asymmetric highlighted bobs with side partings and shaven sides, to short nappy weaves, medium weaves with loose outward curls as well as afro weaves with tight ringlets. With regards to the men, the look is more about close and curly shaves, short tight curls, Mohawks, cane rows, nappy head, dreadlocks and completely clean shaven, just to name a few styles that keep coming back into fashion.

What is the concept behind the new trends?

It is very clear to see that the objective is to move away from the summer trend to expose the roots and more towards keeping them in for protection against the winter. Not only is this a great way to strengthen and grow the hair, but it also saves you the effort of relaxing frequently or straightening if you get caught in the rain or snow. Furthermore, if you have to commute a long distance to work, styling will take a few minutes.

For those that tend to travel a lot abroad, these latest trends will save you from carrying hair tools as extra weight, as well as the hassle of incompatible hair appliance plugs to switches once you arrive at your destination. If at any point and for whatever reason you do one day find yourself in any of the 10 fashion capital cities (below in alphabetical order), with a hair emergency or in dire need of hair products, this guide will help you.

Since Europe has different etiquette when it comes to appointments, be sure to call ahead first so you know if you have to make an appointment or not. That will save you transport costs and wait time than if you decide to just show up and they are busy. Please also bear in mind that English might not be spoken so you might need to speak the bare minimum of the language, use a dictionary or ask a bilingual companion to translate.
Where about in Europe? How to get there and Why?

Afro Hair Care In Amsterdam, The Netherlands

The choices are unlimited if you have to be in central Amsterdam. You are bound to find something along Albert Cuypt Straat and where they have the famous market and it is also a very lively multiracial neighborhood. For cheaper hairdressers opt for Amsterdam Zuidoost, because there you have more hair shops in one place as well as salons that you can compare prices. Take the metro or train from Centraal station to Amsterdam Zuidoost (Bijlmaar). Be warned, in the Netherlands, most people prefer it if you arrive at least 15 minutes prior to the appointment as a matter of courtesy and arriving late is frowned upon. The Netherlands thrives in art, afro-Caribbean cuisine and has a reputation for being liberal and tolerant with its approach to soft drugs, homosexuality, the red light district and much more.

Afro Hair Care In Athens, Greece

If you have not tasted “dolmades, tzatsiki, feta, hummus, pita bread, kofta, gyros, kalamata olives, ouzo “….. (The list goes on). You are doing your taste buds an injustice! Greece has been marred by the economic crisis and strikes but its beauty is resilient. It still thrives and sustains a healthy population of immigrants that help to keep the country turning around. Kypseli seems to be exactly where you would need to be if you are in search of honey, metaphorically or literally. The name means “beehive” and this name and its origin are self-explanatory.

Afro Hair Care In Barcelona, Spain

There are only about 5 Afro hairdressing salons in Barcelona centre. Marem is one of maybe about 4 in the city centre and she is based in Carrer Floridablanca number 7. Take the L3 Metro to Plaza Espana and walk there or take the train to Barcelona Sants and take a taxi.
For a wider assortment and hair products, you need to go to Carrer Prinsesa 14 to Alifa cosmetics and hair shop. Take the L4 metro Jaime or the R2 train to Estacion Francia.

Another hair salon is Samvina in Carrer Viladomat 1.  Just around the corner from her, you will find Hamza Hair shop. This is a bigger shop than Alifa but price wise Alifa is more economical and the staff is more helpful and knowledgeable. Alifa stays open all day and is in the vibrant, artsy Born district reminiscent of Soho in London. Barcelona itself is rich in art, fashion and architecture as well as multi-culture and religion.

Afro Hair Care In Berlin, Germany

According to the head stylist Deborah Hill,” We are two stylists and two barbers. Our clients are women, men and children, all hair types. We do everything, except braids and weaves. There are other hairdressers in town that do braids and weaves, but none that do all the other stuff that we do, like relaxers/perms, colour, cuts, and conditioning”. Along with her partner Joan Dellavalle, these women are well connected with people in the music industry and have done the hair of musicians such as Wyclef Jean and have been invited before backstage to a Beyoncé performance, so you might just find yourself getting your hair done at the same salon as a celebrity!

Afro Hair Care In Brussels, Belgium

According to blogger American Black Chick in Europe, “If you’re in Brussels/visiting Brussels, Chaussee de Wavre is lined with shops that sell black hair care products (and salons should you ever have the need for one). Take the Metro to Porte de Namur. Walk a short way up Chaussee d’Ixelles and take the first left down Chaussee de Wavre. If you pass the McDonald’s on Chausse d’Ixelles, you’ve gone too far.”

Afro Hair Care In Copenhagen, Denmark

It is also interesting to know that in 2002, Copenhagen hosted The Copenhagen Hair Festival because that was the year Afro hairdressing techniques would be introduced into hairdressing institutions there. Visiting hair care students attending the show had the pleasure of swapping ideas with the Danish students.

Afro Hair Care In Milan and Rome, Italy
Milan supposedly has hair care product shops in Stazione Centrale area and between Stazione Centrale, Loreto and via Benedetto Marcello and more mobile hairdressers so you have to look in the yellow pages. Rome, on the other hand, is teaming with shops and salons near Termini and roads going off Via Marsala respectively.

Apparently, most of the African hair shops and salons are to be found close to the train station. This could be more to do with the transport costs involved with importing and exporting of supplies or proximity to clients so they locate them easier. Needless to say, if you find yourself hopelessly lost and without an afro shop or product in sight, enjoy the sightseeing and fashion!

Afro Hair Care In Paris, France

Too many salons to suggest and the standards leave a lot to be desired. That being said, try Chateau Rouge and Chateau d’Eau, (Line 4) and see for yourself what could suit your needs or immerse yourself in the ethnicity of the surroundings. It goes without saying that where you find a lot of immigrants, it is always abuzz with trade, music, markets, food and hair salons. Perfect sights and sounds if you are homesick.

Afro Hair Care In Lisbon, Portugal

Portugal still shares strong ties with Angola and Mozambique so immigrants that were not born there into slavery but immigrated voluntarily still try to hold on to their heritage and are generally hospitable and easy going.

Afro Hair Care In London, England

You have to love London because it is epitomic of a tripod on the fire with a huge, simmering African pot balancing on it. You watch this pot slowly boil over, with all the numerous, exotic ingredients added together to create the perfect, melting pot of culture stew. It has many faces to it, but depending on which one you want to look at, you can see its beauty or its beast. There are numerous places to get your hair done and the beauty lies in being able to speak English if you come from an English-speaking country. Take a curry in a hurry, grab fish and chips and wash it down with a cuppa tea and some scones.

If not, just do your best to show that you are making an effort and take in the fashion on the street because many British fashion designers of today and in the past, have been inspired by what the people wear on the street. The first name that comes to mind being Mary Quant……………she created the first mini skirt from looking at what the girls wore on the street…..aww! Bless her! Where would we be without you Mary?
For more information about the actual salons visit noscruchie.

Afro Hair Care In Stockholm, Sweden

Sweden is the home of ABBA, one of the best bands ever and also the home of Lego building blocks. Many people do not know that it is also very mixed in culture and religion. The 2013 Euro song vision contest was won by Sweden and the singer, Loren is a mixed woman.

    When?

It is better to travel to these destinations just before high summer in June or just after summer in August to avoid the extreme heat and congestion. If you happen to be there at that time, book coastal accommodation ahead of your travel. If you happen to come across some immigrant mobile hairdressers on the beach, let them put some colourful beads or thread in your hair….even if your hair is already done! They will appreciate the money you give them because it will go a long way…….and as we all know, they are a long way from home. Happy hair days abroad!

7 Days Left For Twenty Journey’s Kickstarter Campaign

    0

There are only seven days left to pledge your support on Kickstarter for Twenty Journey, which will see three photographers document a four-month trip across South Africa in a campervan.

To raise the necessary funds, photographers Sipho Mpongo, Wikus de Wet, and Sean Metelerkamp turned to Kickstarter, the world’s largest crowdsourcing funding platform for creative projects.

So far, their Twenty Journey campaign has received over $8 000 from 84 supporters from all over the world, from Estonia to Luxembourg to the United States of America.  In addition, the project has secured sponsorship from Borscht, Orms Pro Photo Warehouse, and Go Pro.

But Kickstarter only funds projects that reach their targets; otherwise no contributors are charged. In the case of Twenty Journey, this means the photographers won’t see a cent of the money pledged if they don’t raise another $4 000 in the next seven days, to reach their goal of $12 000 by Thursday, 26 June 2014.

“We’re so grateful for all the support we’ve received, whether in pledges, press coverage or just all those people sharing the project on social media,” says Sean, whose work has been featured everywhere from Dazed & Confused to The Guggenheim Museums, and who was responsible for Zef Side, the original Die Antwoord music video.

“According to a study by The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, 97% of Kickstarter projects that raised more than 50% of their goal were successfully funded, and we’re already over 65%,” says Sipho, a Cape Town School of Photography and Iliso Labantu alumni. “So we’re hopeful that the flood of goodwill we’ve received will convert over the next week into the money we require. But we need everyone’s help: we can’t do this without you.”

“It’s been a rollercoaster and we’ve been losing our marbles a bit,” says Wikus, who was previously a freelance photographer for Photo24, which supplies pictures to Die Burger, Beeld, Rapport and Volksblad. “We really want the campaign to succeed, not just for our project, but to show other African creatives that crowd-funding is a viable alternative funding model. It would be heartbreaking to come so far only to fail and have nothing to show for it.”

Award-winning South African artist Jane Alexander is among the supporters of Twenty Journey. As she says, “This journey could result in an important collection of images and information that will allow those who engage with it to reflect on the particularities of our history and very complex, exceptional, troubled and but also marvelous social life, and gain a better understanding of where and who we are in the interests of being more informed, tolerant and generous…This is a significant year and marker in our history for a project like this. The photographers are skilled, enthusiastic, excited and energetic, and I strongly support their proposal. I hope the project will receive your favorable support.”

To help make the completed documentary possible, visit the project’s Kickstarter page. Pledges start from as little as $10, with rewards varying depending on the amount pledged.

IMAN: Beauty From The Inside Out

    1

As a woman, it is known that looking good, feeling good and being comfortable within yourself is absolutely vital. I believe that those three things can determine how your mood, attitude and most of the time your determination in life on a day to day basis will be. But, I understand that for us women achieving all these things is not as easy as it sounds or looks.

Make-up for most women is a tricky one, as some may not like it, therefore, they do not wear it and others either like it but unfortunately, do not know how to apply it or there are those that do like it and look pretty good whilst wearing it. Being of a black Caribbean descent I acknowledge that it can be difficult for us to find the right shade, tones and texture that complement our face to blend well with the rest of our body. The variety of make-up in which we as black people have to choose from nowadays come very far and few between. Yes, we have most recently been provided with brands such as ‘Black-up’ but even so, the locations of where we can get these products are limited.

For many years I struggled to find the right type of makeup not only to look good but to also maintain the quality or improve the quality of my skin underneath, I went from ‘Mac’ to ‘Black-up’ to ‘ Maybelline’ you name it. Any brand that supplied makeup for a black person’s skin tone, I tried. No to say that there was anything wrong these brands. I just personally felt like they were not right for my type of skin. Like most black women, my skin can get very oily especially on my nose and my forehead, so it was essential for me to find a makeup that would help target the oiliest parts of my skin whilst ensuring that it did not make my face look to dry.

ALSO SEE: Let’s Try Something Different: NAKED!

Finally, I discovered ‘ IMAN’ and my, my, my, how it has changed my life, not to mention my look. I have always been one to go for that natural everyday look and whilst I do like to change it up on the odd special event, I believe that simplicity is the key as less is more. I have now been using Iman cosmetics for just over 2years and it amazing. My only problem I seem to have to have is actually being able to get hold of the product if and when they have run out of stock online. Living in South London there are only a few locations which I am aware of that stock Iman cosmetics, these are. Brixton, most recently Croydon and a few of the local hair shops which from time to time have a hand full of the Iman products, other than that I sometimes have to travel all the way to Westfields in Shepards Bush were it is sold in a perfume shop. However, most recently I have been informed that they no longer stock Iman cosmetics.

Many of you may know Iman as the very beautiful Somali fashion model, but since 1994 she has made herself a pioneer ” in the field of ethnic cosmetic”. Just like many ethnic women Iman also struggled to find the perfect shades for her skin tone, this encouraged Iman to begin to mix her own formulations to use and Wahla, just like that we have the make-up IMAN. Thank you.

If you are a woman of colour and are still struggling to find the right make-up for you. Why not try Iman, I promise you. you will not be disappointed.

Deciphering Diamonds: What Does The Cut Of A Diamond Say About Its Wearer?

    0

Deciphering Diamonds: What Does The Cut Of A Diamond Say About Its Wearer?

Deciphering Diamonds: What Does the Cut of a Diamond Say About its Wearer?

There is no question that a wedding band is a reflection of one’s unique taste and creative personality. Many women are unaware that the actual cut of their diamond may say something about their personal traits. Whether they are shy and conservative or glitzy and glamorous, there is a diamond shape for even the most discerning tastes.

    • Round Cut Diamond

The simple round cut diamond continues to be one of the most popular choices for an engagement ring. Round rings reflect an air of timeless sophistication and a love without end. Women who prefer round cuts are traditionalists at heart. They prefer a more conventional wedding filled with time-honored wedding customs. Round cut women are honest, conservative, and faithful until the end.

    • Oval Cut Diamond

A combination of a round-cut and emerald cut stone, the oval cut diamond takes sparkling to the next level. Similar to the round diamond, women who select oval diamonds are somewhat conservative; however, they may have bit more individuality. The diamonds egg-shape is thought to represent fertility.

    • Marquise Cut Diamond

Marquise diamonds are larger than life, and should not be worn by a passive woman. This large stone is created to maximize carat weight, making it a prime choice for women who crave dramatic and extravagant accessories.

    • Pear Cut Diamond

Often referred to as the teardrop diamond, this pear-shaped stone takes its style from the marquise and oval cut diamonds. This choice is for the indecisive lady who wants the best of both worlds. With one rounded edge and one pointed, the teardrop is for women who have both sharp edges and soft corners.

    • Princess Cut Diamond

Although princess cuts are still seen as a traditional choice, they are perhaps a bit more modern. The four-pointed corners add a new flair on an old favorite. The woman who wears a princess cut is energetic and craves excitement.

    • Emerald Cut Diamond

This elaborate cut is not for the faint of heart. In fact, emerald diamonds have fewer facets, allowing any flaws in the stone to show through. Women who wear an emerald shaped ring have confidence, and are considered risk-takers. They challenge naysayers and are head-strong in their decisions.

    • Cushion Cut Diamond

The cushion diamond is soft and elegant. A cross between a traditional round diamond and a princess cut, this romantic ring is for a woman who is soft around the edges, yet stunning.

    • Radiant Cut Diamond

The radiant diamond stone mirrors the emerald cut; however it has more facets allowing it to radiate immense amounts of light. Glitzy and glamorous, this ring will sparkle, as will the woman who owns it.

    • Heart Cut Diamond

This unique stone is shaped into a perfect heart. Whether the bride is in love with love, or all things heart-shaped, this is the perfect ring to reflect her individual style and personality

    • Asscher Cut Diamond

The vintage-style asscher cut diamond is for the fashionably savvy woman. A favorite among the trendy elite, this gorgeous ring is definitely vogue. This ring is for women who loved to be noticed and the center of attention. Wearing this ring will definitely do the trick.

Women who are in the process of choosing the perfect wedding ring may want to find one that matches their personality. Others who have a wedding ring may want to discover what their ring truly means, and they may discover something about themselves in the process.
