Woolwich Killers, Michael Adebolajo has been given a whole-life term while his younger accomplice, Michael Adebowale has been jailed for a minimum of 45 years for murdering Fusilier Lee Rigby. The sentence took place at the at the Old Bailey today.
Passing sentence, the judge told Adebolajo and Adebowale: “You each converted to Islam some years ago.”
“Thereafter you were radicalised and each became an extremist espousing a cause and views which, as has been said elsewhere, are a betrayal of Islam and of the peaceful Muslim communities who give so much to this country.”
Michael Adebolajo, 29, and Michael Adebowale, 22, hit Lee Rigby with a car that was driven by Adebolajo before hacking him to death in front onlookers. With hands soaked in blood, Michael Adebolajo ordered one of the eyewitnesses to record him as he made a speech to justify their actions. The incident took place near Woolwich barracks in south-east London on May 22 last year.
“We are satisfied that justice has been served, but unfortunately no amount of justice will ever bring Lee back,” said Lyn, the mother of Lee Rigby.
