Why And How Millennial Men Are Becoming Fashion Savvier

Being a style-savvy man is no longer a turnoff these days. While some may still call it “metro,” we like to call it good fashion sense. Being a well-dressed man is finally something we are shining a positive light on. The reason? It’s likely that with more and more male celebrities dressing sharply, they’re setting an example for young men all over the world. Women are thrilled about this because honestly, who doesn’t like a finely dressed man? It shows that men care about how they present themselves—finally, a trend in clothing culture gives men a chance to show they care more about how they appear when they are out and about. It’s even considered quite fashionable to dress nicely for college classes. Keeping it simple, clean, and not too dressy is the key to pulling off this look as a guy.

Ever since Justin Timberlake and Jay Z came out with their song “Suit and Tie,” a sharply dressed man has been back in full swing. The “hipster” vibe that has also been a recent trend seems to be fading out while fashion-savvy men are taking over. Women have spoken their praises of a more debonair wardrobe for men, and having an overall cleaner look. Some ladies enjoy a scruffy-looking man, but more and more these days, women and employers seem to really prefer a man who looks like he knows what he wants. Because men are now being a bit braver with their outfit choices, men’s clothing companies are providing more stylish choices for them to pick from. Most department stores and even Forever 21, Target, Marshall’s and H & M have sophisticated and affordable dapper clothing for guys to peruse. More choices that make men look good means a larger variety of ways to look good—in other words, guys won’t be walking around like robots all sporting the exact same threads.

What’s interesting about the recent craze for modern menswear is that now, men in their 40s and 50s pick sportswear over the chic styles men in their 20s and 30s now lean towards. This used to be completely the opposite, and it’s really quite refreshing to see young men caring more about looking fresh to death. Men who work in an office atmosphere can get excited about their work apparel again now that it’s in en vogue all over again. Gone are the days of the majority of young men looking grungy and sporting the “who cares” look. Opting for matching socks and coordinating belt and shoes has been a much needed change from the overgrown beards and slouchy agnoraks. If you are a young man and would like to try your hand at this fresh professional-looking style, check out Instagram for inspiration. There are plenty of accounts, such as @GQ, that display the most modern and up-to-date men’s fashions. Another rule of thumb to keep in mind is to always try and dress in an age-appropriate manner. Stick to your own personal style—don’t ever copy another’s completely. Get ideas from a few different sources, and build yourself a new wardrobe (or at least buy yourself a new shirt and observe the positive reactions around you). Happy stylin’!
