Non-EEA members applying to live over 6 months in the UK Â are required to register their fingerprints and facial image.
According to the UK Border Agency, all applicants from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) who wants to stay in the UK for more than six months will have to register their fingerprints and digital facial image. In addition, more immigration and settlement routes need will require a biometric residence permit.
The UK Border Agency has completed the rollout of biometric residence permits in the UK. This will considerably increase the number of biometric residence permits issued by the agency.
The decision takes effect as from the 29 of February 2012.
However, if the applicants succeed, then they will be issued biometric permits which will serve as an evidence of immigration status and prerogative
According to the UK border agency, since November 2008 when the rollout began, it has issued around 650,000 biometric residence permits, containing fingerprints and photograph on a secure chip.
Biometric residence permits are considered an important step in fighting immigration abuse and illegal working. In addition, it makes it easier for employers to verify a foreign national’s right to work in the UK.
