Lassana Bathily, the 24-year-old Muslim shop assistant who is originally from Mali and an employee of Paris kosher supermarket where a terrorist attack took place as part of the Charlie Hebdo terror attack was given a heroic welcome in Mali Yesterday.
Mr Bathily, who reportedly led six people to safety was welcomed by Malian government officials led by the Malian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Cheickkna Kamissoko. He and his father later had lunch with the French Ambassador to Mali at the French Embassy. Bathily left his country to France about 9 years ago.
The Malian-born employee was praised and called a hero for risking his own life to save other people by hiding them in the supermarket’s cold room. The attack in the supermarket left four people dead on the 9th of January 2014.
