NoScrunchie Third Annual Good Afro Salon Awards The Best of Stylists and Best of Clients

On November 22nd, 2015, the UK’s leading Afro salon review website NoScrunchie.com will host its ever-growing Good Afro Salon Awards. Following in the spirit of its online community, NoScrunchie.com’s Awards is the only ceremony featuring client votes as the only credential for the award. Last year’s Awards were featured in Spell Magazine and Black Hair Magazine as well as on several hair and beauty blogs. This year’s event, sponsored by MIZANI Professional, promises to be a glittering affair that honours the best of Britain’s Afro hair talent as well as the people who make those salons what they are – their loyal customers.

L’Oreal Academy will again host the Good Afro Salon Awards this November in their Hammersmith headquarters, bringing together hair enthusiasts, stylists, salon owners, critics, and industry professionals for a glamorous night of creativity, beauty, and good vibes. Nine stylists and Afro-specific salon owners will be honoured at the event for their superb service and creativity, and all nine will be chosen – in true NoScrunchie fashion – entirely by their own loyal customers in the NoScrunchie community. Categories include weave technicians, colour professionals, wig makers, mobile stylists, and exceptional customer service, among others. To nominate, anyone can simply leave a review for their favourite stylist or salon on NoScrunchie.com for the category for which they would like to nominate them. The competition runs from 22 September until 24 October.

On why the brand decided to create the award, Leilah Sekalala, the founder of NoScrunchie, said: “We decided to create an awards ceremony that any good Afro salon can enter, simply by recognising and promoting the relationship between clients, stylists and salon owners. Clients can nominate their favourite stylists in a number of categories, and those who receive the most reviews will be shortlisted to attend the Good Afro Hair Awards – it’s as simple as that.”

The community surrounding NoScrunchie and its member salons and clients are crucial to its mission, highlighting the importance of the client-stylist relationship in real salon life. Viral, organic, and online “word-of-mouth” recommendations are 80% more trusted by Afro salon clients than more conventional forms of marketing, and NoScrunchie.com has built a community of genuine people engaging and reviewing the best of British salons. Salons report that after listing on NoScrunchie, their client numbers steadily increase month-on-month. The website has rapidly grown to become one of the best and most-used places for Afro hair recommendations and advice. The Good Afro Salon Awards allow our members – stylists and clients alike – to celebrate and honour those in our community that they feel deserve recognition for their speciality and creativity.
