Nigerian Arik Air Hostess Charged Over Heathrow Cocaine Trafficking

A Nigerian air hostess working with Arik Air has been charged with attempted cocaine trafficking after she was caught with four kilogrammes of the illegal substance brought into the United Kingdom through the London Heathrow Airport.

The 30-year-old Chinwendu Uwakaonyenma Ogbonnaya was arrested on Sunday on 18 December after finding drugs in an item of baggage.

She had arrived into Heathrow Terminal 4 having travelled on an Arik Air from Lagos in Nigeria.

Ms Ogbonnaya was charged with attempting to smuggle a class A substance into Britain. She is expected to appear before Uxbridge Magistrates on Tuesday 20 December 2011.

According to Marc Owen, the director of UK Border Agency operations at Heathrow,
UK Border Agency officers are on constant alert, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year to keep Class A drugs and other banned substances out of the UK,” Marc Owen, director of UKBA operations at Heathrow, said. “We are determined to prevent this terrible trade which can have such a destructive impact on the lives of so many.
