Ministers in the Netherlands have decide to get tough on citizens holding dual nationality. Also included are for Dutch nationals who have taken on an additional citizenship.
A decision was made on Friday the March 2 2012 by the Dutch ministers to press ahead with a legislation aimed at decreasing the number of people with dual nationality, despite extensive disapproval.
According to the legislation, everyone who becomes Dutch or wants to become a Dutch citizen has to give up their original nationality if it is legally possible. On the other hand, Dutch nationals who take a second nationality will also be made to automatically lose their Dutch passports.
In addition, new Dutch nationals will be required to have a family income of at least the minimum wage as well as prove they have at least two years work experience or have some sort of professional qualification.
