Mexican-born Kenya actress and multiple award winner for her supporting role in “12 Years A Slave”, Lupita Nyongo, has acquired the rights to make a film version of Chimamanda Adichie’s Americanah novel.

The “Purple Hibiscus” writer Chimamanda Ngozie Adichie herself confirmed the deal at a book session organised by Stylist magazine in London.

Chimamanda’s earlier novel, “Half Of A Yellow Sun” was adapted into a film version and has premiered in Canada, the UK, and Nigeria. The film, directed by Biyi Bandele, features Hollywood acts such as Chiwetel Ejiofor, Thandie NewtonAnika Noni Rose, and Joseph Mawle – as well as Nollywood stars such as Genevieve Nnaji, Onyeka Onwenu, Zack Orji, and others.

If Lupita adapts Americanah into a movie, it will be the second novel of the Enugu, a prominent Nigerian-born female writer’s book, to be turned into a movie.
