    Kente Fashion: Ghana Fest, the Pride of African Culture

    Here are some pictures of kente fashion Ghanaian men and women have been rocking for a while now. As part of the just concluded Ghana Fest the Hague that we will be talking about below, we are using the opportunity to showcase kente fashion that is very popular with the people of Ghana.

    On Ghana Fest

    Ghana’s culture was the spotlight in the just concluded Ghana fest 2011 at the Oranjeplein in the Hague, the Netherlands. The festival brought together various cultural intrigues of Ghanaian community in the Netherlands. This enabled young Ghanaians born in Nederland get acquainted with the ways of their ancestors. The festival primarily symbolizes the essence of Ghana’s tradition and it encourages Ghanaians living in the Netherlands to exhibit their rich culture through fashion, arts, and Cuisine.

    Notwithstanding the poor weather condition, the celebration was entertaining with music, dancing, and greetings from loved ones. The surrounding was extremely large and spacious and it was easy for people to park their vehicles. In addition, it was a perfect place as well for children to play and move around.

    It was quite amazing at this year’s event to find various people of African backgrounds living in the Nederlands to come together and witness this festival in Ghanaian style. “It gives me joy to see Ghanaians in the Netherlands come together, unite and promote our culture here in Europe,” said one of the participants. This event also helped in bringing Ghanaians, other Africans, Dutch people, and all visitors across Europe to a networking platform.

    Ghana fest 2011 showcased activities such as Ghana highlife music, a performance by hip-hop group Zire, and cultural dance in royal Ghanaian traditional attire. Moreso, delicious foods and drinks of assorted were displayed on stands around the venue. In addition, the warm attitude of the organisers made it easy for disabled people to find their way around the venue. The holidaymakers that were present also praised the Ghanaian resident in the Netherlands for this opportunity, they acknowledge, “it makes them feel at home and forget their worries”.

    It was a breathtaking event that encouraged African folks to be more lenient towards each other in particular Africans in the Nederlands. Furthermore, visitors acclaimed that, “this is a festival to celebrate because it upholds Ghanaian history and folklore”. The Ghanafest 2011 was an inspirational blend of colours, culture and people, it’s far-reaching influences goes beyond imagination. If you know Ghana at all, then you are probably familiar with Ghanafest which is held every year at Oranjeplein in the city of the Hague, the Netherlands.
