Ignorant and unprofessional Public Relations executive, Justine Sacco, who tweeted, “Going to Africa. Hope I don’t get AIDS. Just kidding. I’m white!” has been fired by her company.
Justine’s insensitive tweet provoked many and resulted in the creation and trending of the hashtag, “#HasJustineLandedYet” as it took about 12 hours for her to arrive at her destination. As a result, she had no access to the internet connection to take a swift action.
When a Twitter user, @Zac_R posted a picture confirming the arrival of Justine at Cape Town International Airport, South Africa the fallout was swift.
When Ms Sacco finally arrived South Africa and saw how she was trending on the internet as a result of her insensitive tweet, she quickly deleted the tweet and then her Twitter account. She went further and removed her entire online presence that includes, Facebook and Instagram.
Justine’s reaction took place after IAC first removed her details from their site and then said they had “parted ways with the employee in question”.
Ms Sacco’s company IAC runs popular websites such as OKCupid, The Daily Beast, Vimeo and Tinder.
