Irish Elect Michael D Higgins as President

Michael D Higgins was confirmed the newly elected president of the Republic of Ireland. Higgins got almost 40% of all votes and won over one time favourite Sean Gallagher.

While making his acceptance speech, Mr Higgins said he wanted to be a president for all the people.

He stressed the need for people to work together in order to solve their problems.

“The necessary transformation of which I speak and of which my presidency will be a part is built on turning creative possibilities into living realities for all our people.”
