Four years after it was created and two years after it was bought by Facebook, Instagram now has over 300 million users, officially overtaking Twitter. Six weeks ago, Twitter announced it has 284 million users on its platform – meaning Instagram overtakes Twitter is ahead with about 16 million users. Just nine months ago, Instagram announced it had about 200 million users on its platform. And since that announcement was made, another 100 million users have joined the popular photo sharing platform. Account to Instagram, about  70 million photos and videos are shared daily by members.
Speaking about their achievement and their new milestone, Instagram CEO Kevin Systrom said: “We’re proud to announce that there are now more than 300 million Instagrammers.”
“Over the past four years, what began as two friends with a dream has grown into a global community that shares more than 70 million photos and videos each day.”
“Instagram is home to creativity in all of its forms, a place where you can find everything from images of the Nile River to the newest look from Herschel Supply or a peek inside the mind of Taylor Swift.”
Last week, Instagram revealed the top snap on its platform – and the wedding photograph of reality TV star, Kim Kardashian and her rapper husband, Kanye West took the number one spot. With over 2.4 million likes, the image of the couple kissing made history on the platform.
They computer also announced it will be rolling out badges to differentiate the original accounts of popular people and brands from the fakes. “Today, we’re excited to announce verified badges for celebrities, athletes and brands, making it easier for you to connect with the authentic accounts you’re looking for,” Systrom said.  “These badges will start rolling out over the coming days.”
