Homosexuals Face Life Imprisonment In Uganda

Uganda’s parliament has passed on an anti-gay law that punishes “aggravated homosexuality” with life imprisonment.

Uganda has always had a very negative opinion on homosexuality and it has always been illegal in their country, but on Friday, the parliament passed an anti-gay law, punishing “aggravated homosexuality” with life in prison.

This new law sets life imprisonment as the penalty for gay sex involving an HIV-infected person, acts with minors and the disabled, as well as repeated sex offenses among consenting adults.

“Now anybody found practising, recruiting for or publicising homosexuality commits a felony,” said Simon Lokodo, Uganda’s Minister of State for Ethics and Integrity.

He also added “We will get hold of all those encouraging others to become homosexuals or lesbians. Anybody we find recruiting or using materials to promote homosexuality, we will arrest.”

In 2012, gay activists held their first gay pride parade in hopes that their country would become more positive minded with homosexuality. However, since their new law has dropped – it seems that the gay activists in Uganda are threatened for their lives. ” If this law is signed by President Museveni, I’d be thrown in jail for life and in all likelihood killed.” says Frank Mugisha, a gay activist .
