Fit and Fabulous: 5 Reasons Why Your Fashion Choices Matter When going to the Gym

Does it really matter what you wear to exercise at the gym? Yes, it matters. You want to look your best while getting healthier. But, there are other reasons fashion choices at the gym matter. Looking good is only part of the picture. Clothing choices can make a difference in how you feel during and after a workout. Your fashion choices should be right for the type of exercise you plan on doing. They should offer support, ease of movement, and comfort.

Looking Good and Feeling Good

There is no reason for exercise clothing to be unattractive. Boutique selections can be both stylish and comfortable. Choose clothing of high-quality materials, including leggings and tops, that have stretch and are supportive. The fabric should wick sweat away from the body.

Choose a bra, shoes, and socks that offer support and comfort to your exercise outfit. Wear the exercise outfit only once before laundering. Having several exercise outfits with separate pieces to mix and match adds interest.

Considerations For Exercise Clothing choices

Five reasons For Fashion Choices and why they matter:

1. Tops and bottoms for exercising should be made of performance fabrics. These are fabrics designed to wick moisture away from the body for exercise comfort. Choose quality fabrics that perform well.

2. Cotton tops may be attractive but during exercise, they will absorb moisture and become heavy and sticky. Then, when a person is done, they get cold. Baggy T-shirts of all cotton can be a safety hazard on exercise equipment.

3. Once you have purchased clothing to be used for exercising, test it out before that first trip to the gym. Clothing should not ride up too high or fall down during exercises. The fabric should not become see-through during exercising.

4. Do not re-wear clothing. Launder exercise clothing after each use to avoid odours. Do not wear street clothes to exercise. Go to the gym changing room and put on your special exercising outfit before working out. Choose socks and shoes carefully. Shoes should be meant for exercising, not jogging, and socks should fit well so they do not rub feet.

5. Exercising fashion does not call for jewellery and watches. These accessories can be damaged by sweat or banging against exercise machines. They can also become a hazard if they get snagged on machines.

Workout Clothing May Need To Change With The Season

Choose workout fashions that are designed for the kind of exercising you plan on doing. Consider the season and the temperature. The best workout clothes are made of synthetic fabrics that wick sweat away from the body. Avoid workout clothing that doesn’t breathe, because they can cause sweat to be trapped against the skin and your body temperature to be too high during a strenuous workout.

Choose to clothe with a comfortable fit that moves with you as you exercise. Do not choose loose tops or wide-legged pants. No one wants clothing that gets in the way or gets caught in machines.

Exercise clothing may have to change with the seasons. In hot weather, fabrics should be chosen that allows the skin to breathe, wick sweat away, and let you move freely. In cold weather and when exercising outdoors, dress in layers and keep warm. Use moisture-wicking fabrics next to the skin and insulating fabrics on top of those. Make sure to cover your ears, head, and hands to protect them from the cold.

The best way to choose exercise fabrics is to think about comfort as well as the look. The best choices look fashionable while being comfortable and safe to exercise in.
