Congolese Citizens Clash With UK Police

Earliar this week, Congolese in the UK protested and clashed with the UK police in opposition of President Laurent Kabila. The protest was organised outside the residence of Prime Minister David Cameron.

About 300 people participated in the event chanting slogans and displaying signs that read, “Kabila Out”. At least 50 police men were present at the demonstration and had to prevent them from entering the premises.

The protesters are mainly DRC citizens living in the UK. They were demonstrating ahead of the anticipated Tuesday announcement of the result of last week’s election that was organised in the mineral-rich central African country.

Kabila has been in power since 2001. Kabila, in power since 2001, led a divided opposition pack of 10 candidates with 46.4% after ballots from just over two-thirds of polling centres had been tallied, according to latest results issued on Tuesday.
