Mohammad Abdi, 27, handed two-and-a-half-year sentence
A MAN who acted in Hollywood film Captain Phillips has been jailed after he committed assault leaving a man with brain damage.
Mohammad Abdi, 27, received a two-and-a-half-year prison term for the attack that took place earlier this year in March.
The actor, who had a small part as a Somali pirate in the 2013 blockbuster which stars Tom Hanks, was sentenced at Manchester Crown Court, where during his trial the jury heard how he and two others kicked the victim until he was unconscious.
The man suffered a brain haemorrhage in what the judge described as a “deplorable” attack.
The other men involved in the attack – Mohammed Omar Ali, 33, and Hamid Hassan, 27 – received two-year jail terms after they both admitted to the charge of grievous bodily harm.
