wrapPING IT UP – The Gèlè Tea Couture Fashion Event

On Saturday, September 14, 2013, Gèlè Tea, the couture fashion event will take place in London. Gèlè Tea Couture Fashion is an event that raises awareness about dementia. The event will have top designers such as Adebayo Jones, Clariscia Gill and Kosibah exclusively showcasing their collections to the audience.

Whether you’re looking for headwear for wedding season or something to tie for a glorious hair day, Gèlè Tea promise to have styles so hot that they’re wrapped up until the big day!

This year, Gèlè Tea is going back to the historical roots of gèlè, to fashions our great great grandmothers would have tied and it evolves with a bit of a twist until the introduction of the urban styles that are lighting the streets of London, Atlanta, New York and Chicago.

As for the fashion…it’s unprecedented that three major designers are launching collections at an awareness raising event that honours and remembers people who have lived with or are living with dementia– truly fashion for a cause.

Attendees will have the opportunity to have a gèlè tied and this year, a lucky guest will have a gèlè named after them.  The organisers hope for it to trend like the Simem and Butterfly collection (2012) that went global.

You can check out some fresh new fashion looks too with makeup artists Bolanle Okusanya Feyita and Juliet Onyeka Osodi and extraordinary hairstyles by hair designer Kasia Fortuna.

Gèlè Tea welcomes plus size designer and love your curves champion Kemi Boutique who will be launching an exciting new collection ahead of the UK’s first plus size bridal show.

There will be raffles and silent auctions to provide attendees with the opportunity to bid for a Clariscia Gill original and a Lyze Bamigbola Silas fascinator. It’s an opportunity not to be missed especially when you add the award-winning models, Rosemary Chilishe, Samar, Siobhan Ridguard and Vanessa Agyemang to the mix. It will be head turning.

Importantly, Gèlè Tea will be raising awareness of dementia. Singer and songwriter, Lánre, will be performing and be encouraging attendees to sing the updated and official version of Memories  The gèlè song and Dementia Nurse Specialist and Queen’s Nurse Morejoy Saineti, will be speaking about people’s experiences.

Gèlè Tea is named in honour of a gèlè enthusiast living with Alzheimer’s. Though there is an emphasis on gèlè per se, Gèlè Tea draws attention to headwear, which is universal.

The use of Gèlè is symbolic as dementia is about the brain/mind and Gèlè Tea draws attention to the head.

Ladies are invited to wear a Gèlè, hat or another form of headwear. Gèlès can be purchased and styled on the day. Men are invited to wear hats.

Proceeds from raffles and gèlè styling will go to support the work of Dementia UK.
