Women Who Eat Bananas Have Higher Chances Of Having A Male Child

According to a research that was published in 2008, women’s diet can determine the gender of babies they give birth to. The scientists say women who eat bananas around the time of conception have higher chances of having a male child than those who did not.

The research, that was carried out at the Universities of Exeter and Oxford say this is the first scientific evidence that proves women’s diet can influence the gender of their offspring.

According to the findings, women who consume more calories around the time of conception, and, in particular, eat more bananas, are more likely to have sons. Another element that was found to influence the gender of babies breakfast. Women who ate breakfast were discovered to have a higher chance of conceiving a boy while those who skip it are more likely to have a female child.

“We were able to confirm the old wives’ tale that eating bananas, and so having a high potassium intake, was associated with having a boy,” said Fiona Matthews, who led the study of 740 first-time mothers published in the Proceedings of the Royal Society B.

The researchers also added that women who take a high amount of calories while trying to conceive have a higher chance of having a male child. The ratio they said is from ten to 11 boys in every 20 births (chances of 50 per cent and above). They also explain the low level of calorie consumption among women in richer countries is the reason there is a decline in male births and those regions.

“Of women eating cereals daily, 59 percent had boys, compared with only 43 percent who bore boys in the group eating less than a bowlful per week.”

For would-be mothers who are looking forward to having a male child, Fiona told the  NewScientist, “If you want a boy, eat a healthy diet with a high calorie intake, including breakfast.”
