Two Charged with Peckham Murder of Sylvester Akapalara

Two suspects have been charged with the murder of Sylvester Akapalara. The deceased was shot in the neck and chest on a Wednesday in 2010. The accused have been charged with murdering a “model athlete” in south London.

Seventeen years old Sylvester Akapalara of Streatham was shot dead in a stairwell on the Pelican Estate in Peckham on Wednesday.

The accused, eighteen years old Sodiq Adeojo of Nigerian origin, and another 17 years old teenage male have been charged with the killing of the victim. The accused are due for the prosecution at Camberwell Green Magistrates’ Court on 3 January 2011.

The murdered victim, Sylvester, is a Sierra Leonian national. He was said to be in the top 30 model athlete in the country for 400m running.

According to Steve Bosley of athletics club the Herne Hill Harriers, Sylvester was “quiet and unassuming”.

Over 760 people have joined a Facebook group set up in memory of the teenager, who was also known as Sylvester Da Donappa.

Shot in the neck and chest, the teenager was discovered bleeding to death on the fourth floor of Heron House on the Pelican Estate.
