Stiege’s Cards Are On The Table: Oxjam Shoreditch Takeover

Twenty-three-year-old rapper, Stiege, was the first of many acts to perform on stage at the Mother Bar in Shoreditch for the Oxjam event, Sunday 20th October. The young and talented rapper arrived early with his band along with a supportive family and friends. Prior to Steige’s energetic and amazing performance, he, his friends, and family partied on the dance floor, vibing to soulful house, R’n’B and dancehall.

As the crowd cheered Stiege and his band on to the stage, he walked with confidence – which complimented his sleek style. The band members were introduced and he explained that he was going to perform three songs. All of which will be on his latest EP, “Cards On The Table” that will be released later this year. Steige’s band consisted of three back up singers, ( two women and a man) an amazing drummer who we later found out was only thirteen years of age and two guitarists who rocked the hell out of their strings.

Before each song, Stiege would inform the audience about its title and give a short description of what the song was about, and how he was inspired to write it. This was the technique that Steige decided to use, not only because it allowed him to get connected with the crowd but as he was the first act on stage, it was essential that he got the crowd hyped and ready for the electrifying night that they were in for. What better way to do this than by making a connection with the crowd, which would enable them to feel comfortable and relaxed? Great move Stiege!

Once all three songs had been performed, the rapper and his band were applauded and Stiege said thank you to the audience for listening and making him feel welcome. Shortly after, the rapper and his band gracefully walked off stage where they continued to laugh, joke, and dance to the uplifting music.

I asked Stiege if there were any other acts that he was looking forward to seeing perform tonight across any of the four venues. He slowly replied, “I actually don’t know who else is performing tonight you know, I haven’t had a chance to look at the program.” Although he stated he would like to stick around to see the other acts perform, he informed me that it is not necessarily up to him. This was due to him travelling with his peers, one of which drove them all. Therefore, if the driver decided it was time to go, then it was most certainly time for them to go.

Roll on the next performer, as the Mother Bar audience awaits the next talented act, I think it is fair that they would certainly have big shoes to fill. After a fantastic start to an eventful charitable event. Stiege shall defiantly be remembered by those inside the walls of Mother Bar, hats off to you man! Certainly, your “cards are on the table.”
