Twitter users went hard on Jamelia for making a controversial comment about plus-sized women as a panelist on Loose Women. Speaking about plus size and having access to clothes, the Black British singer said: “I think everyone should have access to lovely clothes, but I do not think it’s right to facilitate people living an unhealthy lifestyle,” while on the ITV lunchtime chat show.
Speaking about shops stocking clothes that cater to women of all sizes, the Superstar hit singer said: “I don’t believe stores should stock clothes below or above a certain weight. They should be made to feel uncomfortable when they go in and can’t find a size.
“It shouldn’t be normalised in high street stores. They should have specialist shops,” she added.
Her controversial comments resulted to people joining the #WeAreTheThey hashtag to post photos of themselves as plus size women and to register their anger.
Jamelia, who said she she stands by her comments, defended her self on Good Morning Britain today by saying the reaction she got has been “awful”. “Everyone has a right to feel wonderful and feel beautiful and it was never my intention to make people feel any less than what they are,” she said about genuinely loving people.
