Lupita Nyong’o Named People‘s ‘Most Beautiful’

Mexican-born Kenyan actress, multiple award winner and “12 Years A Slave” star actress, Lupita Nyong’o has been named People’s ‘Most Beautiful’ woman. The Lancome ambassador is the 25th personality to be named as ‘Most Beautiful’ woman.  People magazine has been naming the 50 most beautiful celebrities in the world since 1990, and Michelle Pfeiffer was the first personality to be named the most beautiful woman by the Magazine.

As a result of being named the ‘Most Beautiful’ woman of 2014, the 31-year-old actress landed a cover shoot for this week’s issue of the magazine.

Lupita Nyong’o told People that while growing up, being beautiful equates having “light skin and long, flowing, straight hair,” and as a teen died her hair every colour except blond and even shaved her head.

“It was exciting and just a major, major compliment,” the ’12 Years A Slave’ actress says about covering the 25th edition of the magazine’s most beautiful celebrity edition. “I was happy for all the girls who would see me on [it] and feel a little more seen.”

Growing up in Kenya, Nyong’o’s mother, who is the managing director and head of PR for the Africa Cancer Foundation, “always said I was beautiful,” the actor said. “And I believed her at some point.”

The Oscar winners mother Dorothy “always said I was beautiful,” she shares. “And I finally believed her at some point.”
