September 9 was the first day of Africa Fashion Week London that was held at Olympia West Hall that was held in Kensington, London. The show was opened by Didi Creations, a fashion brand owned by Nigerian born and London based designer. During a chat with her, the designer told us she was initially billed to exhibit at the show and did not put up a collection for the runway. She said only got to know she was going to showcase on the runway when it was just five days to the event and it took her three days to put her entire collection for the show.

Over 50 designers participated at the two-day event. Some only exhibited at their stands, some showcased and exhibited as well, well others only showcased on the runway. On day one, several brands presented their collections under their names while brands like Trish O Couture, Tote Collections and Femi Bags showcased their collections under the umbrella of Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC). The NEPC is an organisation that is trying to promote Nigerian fashion to the international public by working with Nigerian fashion designers.

The runway shows on Day one of Africa Fashion Week London started at 4pm. Two shows were scheduled for the day. The second and last show took place at 6pm.
