Black Belgian Footballer Junior Malanda Dies In Car Crash, Aged 20

Black Belgian footballer Junior Malanda who plays as a defensive midfielder for VfL Wolfsburg has died at the age of 20. Junior, whose full name is Bernard Malanda-Adje was travelling in the back seat of an SUV when it was involved in a high-speed collision into a tree near the German city of Bielefeld. He is reported to have suffered fatal injuries in the car crash that led to his immediate death.

Speaking of the young football in a statement, Wolfsburg sporting director Klaus Allofs said: “We are all deeply saddened and our disbelief can hardly be put into words. We can’t believe he is no longer with us. Our thoughts at this difficult time are with his family and loved ones. He was the good spirit of our team and a fun-loving person. In addition, Junior was an excellent football player who was only at the very beginning of his development.”

Junior, who has made 15 appearances for the German Bundesliga side this season was on his way to the airport where he and his team mate were to meetup and fly South Africa for a training camp. The trip to Cape Town was immediately postponed after the incident. The 20-year-old footballer’s last game was a 2-1 win over Cologne on December 20th.

Also sharing their condolence for the death of one of their players, the Belgian national team, @BelRedDevils tweeted: “RIP Junior Malanda #tousensemble.”

“So strange to hear your friend in the morning and then hear this news. Lost a great friend way too early. RIP my friend. @JuniorMalanda,” Belgian footballer Kevin De Bruyne tweeted from his Twitter handle @DeBruyneKev.

Current Chelsea goalkeeper and Belgian No 1 Thibaut Courtois tweeted from his Twitter handle @thibautcourtois : “RIP @JuniorMalanda!! We lose a huge talent and a great person!!”

Another Belgian footballer, Thorgan Hazard with Twitter handle @HazardThorgan8 wrote: “Whyyyyy???…i love you brooo…”
